Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

£33, ,263, pro rata, per annum, 0.6 FTE ( 3 days per week, exact hours and days to be agreed).

This is a fixed term position for 3 years.

Interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.

The Faculty is looking to appoint a dynamic and creative Knowledge Transfer Facilitator to promote and co-ordinate the Faculty's impact and public engagement activities.

The Faculty of Economics is one of the largest in the country, with forty-four full-time teaching officers, including fifteen full Professors. Eight Faculty members are Fellows of the British Academy, seven are Fellows of the Econometric Society, and one is a Fellow of the Royal Society. It has research grant income in excess of £6M as well as large philanthropic income in excess of £20M.

It hosts the Janeway Institute Cambridge (JI) and has large philanthropic donations to support research under the umbrella of the Keynes Fund for Applied Economics.

The Faculty Board developed a new Impact Strategy in 2017 and established the Knowledge Transfer Facilitator role. The strategy has two long term goals: (i) to maximize the impact potential of current research in the Faculty and (ii) to make impact activities a natural part of what we do, on par with research and teaching. Its medium term goals are (i) to plan for the next Research Excellence Framework (REF) (develop case studies well in advance); (ii) to create the necessary faculty-level structures to support impact activities, and (iii) to put in place the necessary incentives to get colleagues involved. In the last REF, the Faculty developed five case studies and submitted four of those which were top rated.

The academic lead on impact and communication activities is the Director of Impact and Communication. The Knowledge Transfer Facilitator's role is to support the work of the Director with the aim of facilitating the implementation of the Impact Strategy. This involves, but is not limited to, working with academics in the Faculty to promote wider and more effective engagement with the impact agenda, to provide support to academics who engage in impact or knowledge transfer activities, to take a proactive role in the development of impact case studies for the upcoming REF and to help develop the REF environment statement.

The role holder will work closely with the research office and with the Director of Impact & Communication, the Communications Manager, Alumni Group, the Research Administrator, and the Research Director in supporting research grant applications and contributing to alumni group activities that are specific to impact. He or she will liaise with academic colleagues in the Faculty and work in partnership with relevant university-wide partners (e.g., the Research Office). The Knowledge Transfer Facilitator is expected to act with a high level of independence and to work proactively and on their own initiative.

Person specification

The successful applicant will have:

Administrative or project management experience, preferably in a research-related role and in a university environment, with experience in drafting complex documents and preparing funding bids The ability to work closely with senior and junior academics, and individuals from government, business and industry; and to understand their research priorities. Strong inter-personal skills and an ability to motivate and engage academics with the impact agenda. The skills to draft complex documents as well as synthesise scientific concepts and to present scientific and financial data in the appropriate written or oral format. A good first degree Excellent IT skills Proven negotiating and problem-solving skills, and the ability to think creatively and initiate new ideas Self-motivation with the ability to work proactively, act on own initiative, and manage own workload Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines

The University actively supports equality, diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all sections of society.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
