At HS2 we offer a two-year apprenticeship programme, providing you with the opportunity to stretch and challenge yourself whilst we support you to implement your learning.

Our apprenticeships enable you to develop your HR Skills across the HS2 project.


HS2 Apprentices join us in September 2023, where they will have a full Induction into HS2 and meet their apprentice cohort.

Our apprentices will complete a learning week every 6 months, which is designed to develop core skills, knowledge and behaviours required on the HS2 Project.

Apprentices are supported by their day-to-day team and the Talent and Development team, where regular team meetings are set up weekly, 1:1's are provided, and every apprentice is assigned a mentor for their durations as well as a team buddy.

As a HR Apprentice, you'll transform insight into impact.

With real responsibilities, you'll discover how to organise, plan, and make decisions to enable us to deliver the best railway in the best way.

You will support a range of teams across the HR Directorate including, Talent and Development, Reward, Resourcing and Legacy to recruit, develop, reward, and retain our employees.


No two days will look the same, you will be handling day to day queries and providing HR advice, influencing stakeholders, and helping to continuously evolve and improve HR processes.


As part of the apprenticeship, you will rotate around the teams within the HR function building your HR knowledge and experience whilst working towards a Level 3 CIPD HR qualification.


The HR Directorate is accountable for working in partnership with the business to build, develop and maintain the organisational capability and capacity required for each project phase.

Our four key priority themes are developing an effective organisation with the right skills & capabilities; realising the HS2 skills legacy; developing a high-performing and diverse workforce with an inclusive culture; and delivering proactive, professional, innovative HR support.


Accountabilities:

  • Deliver inclusive customer service on a range of HR queries and requirements, providing solutions, advice and support primarily to managers.
  • Use agreed systems and processes to deliver service to customers. Takes the initiative to meet agreed individual and team KPIs in line with company policy, values, standards.
  • Plans and organises their work, often without direct supervision, to meet commitments and KPIs.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve HR performance and service; acts on them within the authority of their role and supports implementation of HR changes/projects with the business.
  • Takes ownership through to resolution, escalating complex situations as appropriate for a range of HR projects/queries.
  • Maintains required HR records as part of services delivered and prepares reports and management information from HR data, with interpretation as required.
  • Keeps up to date with business changes and HR legal/policy/process changes relevant to their role.
  • Accountable for meeting deadlines as agreed with the placement manager
  • Accountable for managing time to ensure college work is completed as agreed with the apprenticeship provider
  • Maintaining and recording placement information to support with the apprenticeship qualification
  • Maintaining information as agreed with the placement manager
  • Actively promote and embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work and support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.
Learning

  • Attendance to training provider/college sessions

**Knowledge: - IT: Knowledge of and experience of using MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint

**Type of experience: - To join us on an Apprenticeship Programme, you'll need to have achieved or expect to achieve 5 GCSEs at grade 4 minimum, including English and Maths, or equivalent
