Job summary

We are in need of a highly experienced Anaesthetic Nurse / Practitioner / ODP with a post registration anaesthetic qualification to join our amazing team at Lewisham Hospital. We have 11 theatres across two floors with a terrific Theatre team.

All tasks will be done in close collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team under the guidance of a Consultant. Demonstrating clinical expertise within the speciality and working autonomously, managing allocated clinics independently and seeking guidance/support when needed.

Main duties of the job

- Manage and lead the anaesthetic nursing / practitioners / ODP team, working collaboratively with Anaesthetists. Responsible for staff rostering, training, and development, as well as contributing to policies and actively participating in governance activities including investigating medicines incidents.

- Become an essential member and point of contact and resource for the multi-disciplinary team and patients and carers.

- Carry out diagnostic/therapeutic interventions independently, interpret findings, write reports, and initiate further treatment as necessary.

- Perform complex therapeutic/investigational procedures under the indirect supervision of the Consultant, ensuring safe practice and adherence to guidelines/protocols for the highest standard of care based on competent clinical practice.

Job responsibilities

- Independently or with the multidisciplinary team, manage patient care and interventions within clinical protocols and current practice trends.

- Provide a supportive service to patients and carers, sharing specialist knowledge to help individuals adapt to changes, liaising with healthcare professionals as needed.

- Offer support and advice services to patients and carers, providing information from diagnosis through all disease stages in collaboration with relevant healthcare professionals.

- Maintain accurate records of clinical and legal documentation in line with policies.

- Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate care programs in acute and community settings.

- Control patient admission through direct referral with consultant oversight.

- Align actions with the Divisional Business Plan, focusing on Anaesthetic care to contribute to nursing/midwifery aspects of the plan.

- Investigate incidents/complaints and implement corrective actions as needed.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MSc level learning
  • Relevant professional/clinical qualification (RN/ RODP)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Possession of relevant education/teaching certification
  • Possession of speciality post registration certificate or equivalent

  • Evidence of operational management experience in an acute hospital setting in a senior nurse/ODP/midwife role
