We are looking for a pro-active, passionate, and friendly Nursery Manager to join a busy, independent nursery setting based in Peckham.

This is a 12 month maternity cover with the possibility of going permananent. The nursery cares for children from 2 to5 years old.

The role is Monday-Friday, 35 hours per week.

The shifts will be based on a mix of early and late shifts as the nursery is open from 8.00AM-6.00PM.

The manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the nursery. The manager will be accountable to the proprietor of the nursery.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring a high standard of educational provision, resources and care for children in the nursery.
  • Supervision of and supporting the other staff within the nursery.
  • The day to day management of the nursery in terms of administration.

Key Duties:

  • Supervising and supporting all personnel within the nursery in their day to day duties.
  • Liaising with parents and other family members.
  • Liaising with the Local Authority and other professionals associated with the nursery.
  • Overseeing the efficient upkeep of the building and maintenance/stock of equipment, furnishings, and fittings.
  • In conjunction with the OFSTED national standards, the proprietor and nursery staff, formulating and operating a programme of activities suitable for the age range and developmental level of the children attending the nursery.
  • Being responsible for all administrative duties associated with the management of the setting, e.g., maintaining records, ordering equipment, keeping personnel records, maintaining confidentiality etc.
  • Coordinating with appropriate agencies regarding trainee placements and supervising accordingly, including allocating students to be mentored by established members of staff.
  • Convening/Chairing regular meetings where appropriate. This includes holding regular supervision and appraisal meetings with staff members.
  • Attending regular meetings and reporting to the proprietor to ensure that they are kept informed of current events.
  • To attend regular training throughout the year and provide feedback to the nursery staff.
  • To complete termly information on the provider portal for funded children, along with submitting information to claim for individual children via other portals, such as the child grant payment service.

Person Specification/Desired Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (includes but not limited to Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • An Enhanced DBS subscribed to the Update Service
    or a willingness to undertake one
  • At least 1 year's UK experience working within Nurseries or Children's Centre settings
  • Some experience in leading staff in an Early Years Setting
  • Contributes and attends planned social events outside of typical working hours (e.g., staff meals, parent BBQsetc.)
  • Be able to build strong relationships with children, colleagues and parents
  • Have sound knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and safeguarding
