Role Overview:

As an Inclusion Unit Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in providing additional support and guidance to students with a range of complex needs, including special educational needs, behavioural challenges, and social and emotional difficulties. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Student Support: Providing one-to-one and small group support to students within the inclusion unit, helping them to access the curriculum, develop social skills, and manage their emotions and behaviour effectively.
  2. Behaviour Management: Implementing behaviour management strategies and interventions to support students in managing their emotions, making positive choices, and engaging positively in the school environment.
  3. Emotional Support: Offering emotional support and reassurance to students facing challenges or experiencing distress, providing a listening ear and helping them to develop coping strategies and resilience.
  4. Collaboration: Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other school staff to implement individual support plans, monitor student progress, and provide regular feedback and updates on student behaviour and engagement.
  5. Crisis Intervention: Responding to behavioural incidents and crises in a calm and professional manner, using de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution strategies to defuse tense situations and ensure the safety and well-being of all students.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with special educational needs, behavioural challenges, or social and emotional difficulties, ideally within a school or educational setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents, and establish trust and rapport with vulnerable individuals.
  • Empathy, patience, and resilience in supporting students facing complex needs, demonstrating a compassionate and non-judgmental approach.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies, safeguarding procedures, and special educational needs frameworks, with the ability to implement and adapt strategies to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the diverse needs of students and the school environment, prioritising their well-being and success.
