The NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is an executive non-departmental public body of England's Department of Health and Social Care.

This role includes;

  • Processing the blood donations from our donors, with the support of your supervisor and other team members
  • Testing of blood samples or validation/issue of processed blood components
  • Undertaking precise repetitive and routine tasks, carrying out manipulation of equipment and handling blood bags and blood samples/donations on a regular basis
  • Handling blood bags and a range of equipment
  • Manually handling equipment on a daily basis weighing up to 13 kgs, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training


The working patterns include 7am - 12 noon, 3pm - 11pm, 11pm - 7am, across Monday to Sunday, working 37.5 hours per week.

You will need to be flexible, however shifts will be given in advance.

They are looking for someone who can:

  • Follow written instructions and ensure the services provided are in line with standard processes and good practice, showing attention to detail.
  • Prioritize own workload and take responsibility for delivering results within agreed timescales.
  • Use initiative for any issues at work, acting quickly and calmly to focus on finding a solution.
  • Communicate well with others, while working as part of a team.

You must have a minimum of GCSE grade C or above including English and Math's or equivalent qualification. You need to be confident computers and packages such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Word etc.)

  • Successful applicants will be required to attend an induction, which could be different to the work pattern agreed, for example a night worker would need to attend a daytime induction._
