Vattenfall Heat UK (VHUK) was established in 2018 with the aim of developing city-scale low carbon heat networks in key cities across the UK. As a part of the Vattenfall Group, one of Europe's leading energy companies, VHUK plays a crucial role in supporting the transition to fossil-free living. The organization collaborates with Ameresco as the Strategic Partner for Bristol City Council (BCC) in the Bristol City Leap initiative. VHUK's responsibilities include designing, constructing, financing, operating, and maintaining low carbon heat networks in Bristol, with a focus on delivering competitively-priced, eco-friendly heat to communities and businesses. VHUK is now seeking a new member to join the BHNL Heat Network Advisory Panel (HNAP) to provide valuable insights and support for the development of heat networks in Bristol.
The HNAP, comprised of industry experts, ensures alignment with Bristol City Leap's strategic goals by offering advice, support, and independent counsel. Members will contribute their knowledge and expertise to guide BHNL in the implementation of heat network projects. Candidates should have relevant experience in heat networks or related areas of the energy sector, along with skills in real estate development, project construction, heat policy, or financial matters. The panel will focus on enhancing the Heat Network project proposals, engaging with Community Energy Groups, and promoting innovation in heat network development.
Key Responsibilities/Duties:
- Evaluating the progress of the Heat Network build out.
- Providing feedback on growth, maintenance, and operation of heat network assets.
- Assessing performance against Heat Network KPIs and decarbonization targets.
- Proposing projects for the Heat Networks Plan to involve Community Energy Groups.
- Offering insights on local community perceptions of the heat network.
- Suggesting opportunities for innovation in network development.
- Promoting the Bristol Heat Network with stakeholders.
- Contributing to policy positions related to the Bristol Heat Network.
- Experience in district heating or related sectors.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with HNAP members.
- Strong communication skills.
- Capacity to handle sensitive data with confidentiality.
- Understanding of balancing carbon reduction and commercial viability.
- Acting as a liaison for local businesses in City Leap projects.
Terms of Appointment:
- Remuneration: £4,000 per annum plus expenses.
- Estimated Time Commitment: 4-6 days per annum.
- Expected Quarterly Meetings in Bristol.
- Initial Term: Three years.
- Commitment as an individual member.
- Adherence to best practice standards of governance.
- Appointment of Chair by BHNL.
