Family Support Worker - Role

Plymouth City Council are looking to recruit an experienced family support worker to the Edge of Care Team within Targeted Support Service of Children's Services.


The Edge of Care Team (EoCT) is a multi-disciplinary team within Targeted Support that works with some of the most complex and vulnerable young people who are on the edge of, entering, or have just entered, care.

The EoCT will provide a timely and intensive targeted intervention that is


coordinated and focused on the young person and family, reducing risks and improving relationships to support Children and Young People (CYP) remaining/returning home.

Key principles of how the EoCT deliver support includes:

  • Relationship-based practice with and between agencies and with families;
- 'Whole Family' approach; responding to the child's needs/ behaviours as well parental capacity and wider social/economic factors;

  • Trauma Informed and Restorative Practice embedded within the approach to supporting CYP and families;
  • Multidisciplinary approach; access to a range of disciplines skilled in bringing about change with adolescents and within families;
  • Evidencebased methods; ways of working shown to improve outcomes for children on the edge of care.
This service is dynamic with a strong commitment to delivering an excellent child focused, strength based approach.

The role of the Family Support Worker is an integrated part of Plymouth City Council's overall strategy to protect and safeguard the children of Plymouth.
