About the job:


This is a full-time Support Worker position, supporting a 10-bed Supported Living service in Swindon for people with autism, learning disabilities, and predominantly physical disabilities.


You will have the option of working 3 x long shifts per week, or 5 x shorter shifts (AM & PM) per week, 38.5 hours in total.

There are no nights involved in this role (although Waking Nights are available if preferred) and the role includes some weekend working (roughly 2 in 4)

The role will include:

  • Encouraging the people you support to participate in their chosen activity or follow their interests
  • Assisting people in the community
  • Coordinating scheduled activities for the people you support, using personalised rotas and liaising with others, ensuring facilitated activities and appointments are attended.
  • Supporting, prompting and assisting people with their personal care, promoting independence during this, wherever possible.
  • Encouraging the people you support to utilise or develop any proactive strategies to maintain their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
  • Ensuring all records are accurate and up to date, including incident forms, daily notes and finance records.
  • Responding to and managing challenging behaviour in a calm and levelheaded manner

Salary & Benefits:

Salary for this role is £21,274 per annum / £10.

91 p/hr, plus benefits including:

Requirements:

  • At least 6 months experience of support work, ideally working with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, mental health, and/or behaviours that challenge.
  • To be a driver with your own vehicle due to the location of the home or have a reliable mode of transport that is not public transport.
  • Excellent communication skills, fluency in English, and good literacy and numeracy skills
  • A calm and confident manner, able to deal with unpredictable and challenging behaviours in a confident and compassionate way
  • A commitment to working with vulnerable people and to your own personal development
