What is the Role

SSEN Transmission, the owner and operator of the electricity transmission system in the north of Scotland, has a critical role to play in enabling the national energy transition and achievement of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions targets.

Developing effective strategy is critical for our business, especially operating in an evolving landscape as we transition to a net zero energy system. In support of this, the Strategy Analyst will play a leading role in the implementation of strategy and promotion of strategic thinking across the organisation.

The Strategy Analyst will provide robust analysis on and drive delivery of strategy team activities. These include providing market insight and economic analysis, supporting the identification of future growth opportunities, and engaging stakeholders across the business to help inform the design, development and implementation of the SSEN Transmission Strategy.

The key duties & responsibilities will include:

Business Strategy. Supporting the development of SSEN Transmission's strategic projects, working with colleagues across the business to undertake strategy development to be used by external stakeholders including government, regulators, network users and consumers.

Strategy Research and Analysis. Undertaking market and industry research, assessment and competitor/peer analysis, to inform and shape the design, development and implementation of SSEN Transmission strategy.

Strategy Process and Delivery. Translating defined strategy into actionable and quantifiable plans, designing and managing a delivery plan for strategy development and implementation.

Stakeholder engagement. Identifying and actively engaging key stakeholders at all levels of seniority, working with these stakeholders to lead cross-business initiatives and deliver performance improvement projects.

Growth opportunity identification. Assessing the external landscape within which the business operates, highlighting trends, opportunities, and potential threats to our current operating model. Provide evidence base to undertake horizon scanning activities and explore approaches in response to emerging market factors.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

A passion for the achievement of net zero targets and the strategic approaches needed to achieve this. Demonstrable understanding of the energy industry, key stakeholders and the regulatory/policy landscape, gained from past experience as well as through social/professional networking.

High level of interest and understanding of business strategy development and practice. Demonstrated experience of applying analytical and organisational tools for strategy development such as competitor analysis, strength-weakness analysis, growth, option or scenario assessments, and providing future-looking insight.

Good communication skills, equally comfortable handling and analysing large quantities of data as well as developing compelling strategic narratives. Demonstrated ability to synthesise complex arguments and communicate the messages clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

Curious about how to get things done and motivated to do a good job. Demonstrated ability to and interest in operating independently and outside of your area of expertise, for instance engaging technical, regulatory, finance and engineering specialists to gather relevant information and progress work.

Experience working with a wide range of colleagues and stakeholders, building strong cross-functional project teams and managing multiple competing challenges and objectives.
