REAL ESTATE ESG

Our client is an investment management and advisory firm specialising in value add/ opportunistic real estate.

Since its inception over 20 years ago they have invested more than £850 million of asset value and developed £450 million of gross development value.


As a company they are striving to build a lasting business that has a positive impact on the people and real estate that they engage with along the way.

To this end they are now seeking a Head of ESG to drive strategy across the portfolio at put ESG at the forefront of new investment and development.


ROLE PROFILE

  • Develop ESG strategy, both equity and debt, aligned to the overarching firm level ESG investment policy.
  • Giving leadership and direction to teams at portfolio and asset level.
  • Custodian of all policies and procedures ensuring that these are updated as required to ensure best practice as regulation and legislation evolves.
  • Work with internal teams to raise the firm's profile in this field.
  • Investor engagement both current and potential clients.
  • Responsible for responding to ESG sections of RFPs and any ad hoc client queries on the topic.
  • Keeping abreast of investor expectations.
  • Attend quarterly investor meetings to update investors on ESG progress and respond to questions.
  • Attend due diligence meetings with prospective investors articulating corporate, investment and real estate level ESG credentials and responding to questions.
  • Sitting on the real estate investment committee and ensuring that ESG features prominently in decision making.
  • Sitting in on Annual Business Plan reviews setting targets for asset managers and benchmarking their performance.
  • Internal engagement at all levels, coaching and educating as needed across the business acting as an ambassador and champion for ESG.
  • Oversight of internal and external reporting requirements and content.
  • Overseeing asset and fund level data collection.
  • Responsible for leading any reporting activities.
  • Engagement with and instructing consultants as necessary.
REQUIREMENTS / PERSON SPEC

  • A degree and / or subsequent qualification(s) in environmental management or sustainability will be an advantage, while a wider understanding and commitment to the ESG agenda is essential.
  • Deep experience and understanding of sustainability risks and opportunities for the real estate sector.
  • Strong relationship management and influencing skills at all levels of the organisation, and externally.
  • Good working knowledge of all regulatory frameworks around ESG
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills essential in communicating with integrity on a range of sustainable property and wider ESG topics with stakeholders, investors and external partners.
  • Strong analytical approach.
  • A resourceful nature, with skills and ability to research and develop good practice and solutions to meet challenges in ESG management and monitoring across the portfolio and asset types.
  • Confidence to develop relationships, deliver projects within the portfolio, to gather data successfully and to handhold partners to implement recommendations for environmental and other ESG management initiatives.
  • Desire to learn and broaden knowledge and understanding.
  • Proactive, organised and pragmatic approach to setting and managing work programme.
  • Experience working across cultures and geographies.
