It is an exciting opportunity for a qualified HCPC registered OT with relevant rehabilitation experience to work across the multidisciplinary teams to provide high quality assessment and interventions both in hospital and community settings. The clinical input will vary depending on service demands with a need to achieve activity targets.

Services based at:

  • West Midlands Rehabilitation Centre - Specialist clinics, access to communication and technology, amputee rehab Birmingham wheelchair service and posture and mobility service .
  • Moseley Hall Hospital - Inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation and stroke units , Birmingham Neurological Rehabilitation Team and Moor Green outpatient brain injury unit, Early supported discharge team.
The delivery of rehabilitation programmes and OT intervention can take place within the service base, client's home or in the community. This will involve moving around the community on a daily basis with potentially long periods of driving.

You will need to have relevant clinical experience within neurology and assessment of complex disability and be flexible to meet the demands of all the different services. Be prepared to work within different services at short notice. You must be able to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up-to-date clinical trends and practices including evidence-based ones, including prioritisation of workload and time management. You must be a car driver to enable travel to community patients and service bases Main duties of the job The peripatetic post will support the rehabilitation services within the Adult and Specialist Rehabilitation Division which provides a wide range of services for people living in Birmingham and the West Midlands.

To work as part of the interdisciplinary teams within the rehabilitation services , effectively assessing clients with complex needs, considering their function, disability and health, taking into account all environments in which they live and work.

To provide assessment and analysis of rehabilitation, social and care needs of complex patients as part of the Inter-Disciplinary Teams, in discussion with senior members of staff.

Identify Occupational Therapy goals and plan intervention that is evidence based in conjunction with the client, their careers, other professionals / agencies.

On the in-patient neuro-rehabilitation unit and Birmingham neuro- rehabilitation team to act as a key working a set number of patients to plan and co-ordinate their outpatient programme.

Communicate effectively with clients, family / carer, and other professionals both internal and external to organisation. This may require explanation, instruction, persuasion, motivation, negotiation, reassurance and require expert verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
