Wastewater Asset Planner

Glasgow, Glasgow City, United Kingdom Scottish Water Full time
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

It's not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland. But it's what's behind every job here. The work we do keeps Scotland's water flowing, from reservoir to tap - and from sewer to treatment plant.

As an Asset Planner for Risk and Lifecycle Planning, you'll manage asset performance and risk to support our customers and deliver Scotland's most important natural resource: water.

Future Transformation

You'll be working closely with several transformation initiatives including Sustainable Investment Decision Making (SIDM).

This has seen the Asset Planner role transform into Wastewater Near or Long-Term Planning, with the planning horizon focusing on 0 - 6 and years, respectively.

These roles are key in developing and supporting asset level planning within a system context, linked with investment appraisals and management approaches.

You'll be helping us align investment and pro-active asset inspection and enhance the asset data we hold to support future investment and risk profile modelling.

This allows us to transform how we work and empower smarter investment choices, enabling sustainable and inclusive economic growth to support a flourishing Scotland.

What you'll do

You'll be planning the future of our wastewater systems from sink to sea. You'll point your analytical skills at our performance, with an eye to improving our asset management strategy. This isn't a job you can nudge along from afar - you'll take real ownership of the assets.

Confident working with people at all levels of business, you'll collaborate to understand and quantify risk, identify when and how best to intervene, and develop plans based on evidence from a range of sources.

You'll be helping people across Scottish Water to improve how we deliver our service by transforming our Near Term / Long Term Planning capability.

Helping us to make better decisions that lead to improved value, efficiency, service excellence and Net Zero.

What you'll bring

Of course, you'll have a solid understanding of asset risk, performance, and management. You'll also have experience in water/ wastewater services, or water industry regulation.

You're a planner through-and-through, someone who builds strong work relationships (plans don't really work unless people are involved, right?). Making friends and influencing people is just what you do. And there's no formal qualification for that.

Sorting through data to make informed decisions is a big part of the job, so you'll need a great analytical brain.

That should include experience creating detailed reports and presentations with clear analysis and actionable recommendations.

It would be good if you had an operational knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, and experience of using IT to manage assets.

But neither are deal-breakers.

Although you'll mostly be in the office or working from home, you will need your hi vis on standby for regular site visits.

A full, clean driving licence is non-negotiable.

Looking out for you

While the work we do is important, we know it's not the only thing that matters. That's why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance.

This is a full-time role (37 hours per week), Monday to Friday. You'll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working.

For your future, there's our pension (the 'know-what-you'll-get-when-you-retire' kind), and life assurance.

As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus.

Not to mention access to SW Splash - handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping.

The not-so-small print

From 1st April 2024 Scottish Water is moving to a new grading and pay structure. This role will be a Grade 7, with a salary range from £41,000 to £51,970. New external hires will normally be expected to join on the minimum salary.

We operate a hybrid working model, so you can expect to spend some days at home, some days in the office and some days out on-site visits.

All new Scottish Water employees are required to complete pre-employment security checks before they can start work.

A few final things worth knowing

Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best.

Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We're very used to making adjustments, so please don't be afraid to ask.
