With offices across the UK, this leading national firm has cultivated long-standing relationships with an impressive range of clients.

The Role

Our client is seeking an Associate or Senior Associate to join their commercial health team. This role involves managing commercial contracting, general commercial, and governance issues for public sector and independent health and social care clients, including those in the life sciences. Responsibilities also include business development, supervising junior team members, and financial performance management.

Key Responsibilities

Caseload Management:

Handle a diverse range of commercial/contracting advice, including:
NHS standard and bespoke contracts (clinical, non-clinical, outsourcing agreements).
Commercial agreements in the life sciences sector, including licensing, IP, and data provisions.
Primary care contracting, including drafting new national standard contracts.
Collaboration agreements, partnerships, joint ventures, and outsourcing.
Governance issues, such as directors‘ duties and conflicts of interest, for NHS and private sector clients.
Health/local authority partnerships (s 75 arrangements).
NHS commissioning policy.
Support & Supervision:

Assist partners and senior colleagues within the commercial health team and the firm’s wider Health and Life Sciences teams.
Supervise and mentor junior team members.

Business Development & Marketing:

Plan and deliver seminars and training (in-person and online).
Attend and speak at healthcare seminars and conferences.
Write articles for health sector trade journals.
Issue bulletins on topical legal issues.
Contribute to the firm’s health law website.
Support the firm’s corporate governance network events for NHS commissioners.
Develop strong client and intermediary relationships.
Collaborate with the marketing team on client pitches and tenders.
Legal Research & Advisory:

Conduct legal research and provide advice on statutes, regulations, directives, statutory guidance, and case law.

Skills & Abilities:

Provide clear, concise, and commercially relevant advice.
Offer legally and commercially effective solutions.
Enthusiastic team player with strong interpersonal skills.
