Senior Associate - Health Advisory & Litigation

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Senior Associate to manage a caseload of Court of Protection and advisory (including advocacy) matters primarily for the NHS, with opportunities to work for independent sector health and social care clients and local authorities as well.

About the Role: As a Senior Associate in our Health Advisory & Litigation team, you will work in a team that provides a range of high-quality legal services on complex matters. Delivering exceptional client service, including proactive, strategic and commercial management of cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake Court of Protection work for a wide range of public and private sector health and social care clients.
  • Manage a caseload of Court of Protection and advisory (including advocacy) matters primarily for the NHS, with opportunities to work for independent sector health and social care clients and local authorities as well.
  • Deliver exceptional client service, including proactive, strategic and commercial management of cases.
  • Undertake marketing activities, including the planning and delivery of relevant seminar and training programmes.
  • Willing to spend time with clients on short-term secondments if required.
  • Experience relating to Court of Protection and/or serious medical treatment applications to the High Court.
  • Experience in health and social care advisory matters – including mental health, mental capacity including health and welfare applications and s21A MCA 2005 challenges, adult safeguarding, responsible commissioner advice, professional advisory on health and social care legal matters including consent, Continuing Healthcare, access and funding, direct payments, immigration, judicial review and human rights claims.
  • Presentation skills, to deliver training to clients or internally on relevant health and social care legal topics.
  • Familiarity with IT (Microsoft Office 2010), and ideally with experience of appropriate case management systems.
  • Familiarity with online and library research facilities.
