What you will be doing.
We have an exciting opportunity to join our in-house finance team based in York as a Management Accountant. As a Management Accountant you'll play a key role in providing a consistent, high quality and accurate management accounting service to the business and Senior Finance Business Partners that supports commercial business decisions and maintains financial controls within the function.
Working within the Finance Business Partner team, you will ensure the integrity of the transactional financial data in the LNER Trial Balance and the completion of period end activities per strict deadlines. You'll also support the Finance Business Partner team in producing quality financial information and reports.
You'll also be involved in;
Producing a full set of periodic Balance Sheet Reconciliations ensuring all accounts are reconciled to supporting documentary evidence. Producing period end and year end journals with supporting information Supporting the Business partners to ensure delivery of quality, timely functional management accounts, complete with appropriate explanations for variances to target and supporting narrative Working with the Lead and Senior Finance Business Partners in conjunction with key business stakeholders to support the delivery of robust and accurate annual budgets and quarterly forecasts Assisting in the production of timely periodic reports, ensuring the information is tailored to the requirements of the end-user to inform strategic decision making and improve financial performance. Assist in driving the business to adopt a cost-conscious culture via review of cost centre spend, adapting communication styles to coach, partner and engage relevant managers to ensure ownership and understanding of cost drivers. Working as a member of the business partnering and wider finance team to ensure consistency of approach and achievement of both finance and company goals Assist in on-going cost monitoring and provide analysis as required to justify/ support/ challenge the business as required. Providing cover by learning the activities of other roles within the Finance team. Complying with all legal, taxation and other regulatory requirements together with any specific company financial policies and procedures. Maintaining a full audit trail and proactively supporting the year end audit process, providing information and, responding to auditor questionsThere may be the opportunity for hybrid working within this role however, there will also be a requirement to work from our offices based in York on a regular basis.
What do we need you to have?
Demonstrable experience of working in an Assistant / Management Accountant role or equivalent Possess a relevant professional qualification or currently studying towards (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) Proven track record of extensive use of Excel on day-to-day basis Good working knowledge of current accounting software systems and other bespoke systems. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Excellent analytical and numerical abilities with an eye for detail Ability to work under pressure and to work to demanding deadlines. Ability to work on their own initiative and take ownership, demonstrating an appetite for maintaining and developing own technical competence and continuous learning.
