Composite Materials Engineer

Gloucester, United Kingdom GE Full time
Job Description SummaryYou will be responsible for measuring and managing composite material data for the design and certification of propeller blades for the next generation of sustainable turboprop aircraft. Reporting to the Senior Composite Engineer, you will be part of a team delivering cutting-edge composite blade designs and manufacturing processes.

Job Description

Within the Materials and Process team, youâll be the focal for material data. Youâll be responsible for planning and executing material test programmes, with an emphasis on composite materials. This will be a mix of internal and external testing, and encompass both physical and virtual test methods.

Youâll be expected to plan and conduct test campaigns in-house, as well as manage external suppliers and research partners to perform testing outside of the scope of our facilitiesâ capabilities. This will also involve taking ownership of test procedures and internal test capability development. You will also be responsible for fractography and failure analysis of composite structures from test, to support design and analysis method validation.

A key part of the position is to support the design and analysis teams, both by providing material data to them and consulting on how it should be used. To assist with this, youâll be creating and maintaining digital databases of material data and allowables. These databases will include mechanical and physical performance data, but also sustainability data to support our drive to better understand and reduce the impact of our product on the environment.

You will also be required to collaborate with commercial partners, research institutions, Universities, and composite engineers across GE worldwide in the development of state-of-the-art new methods for physical and virtual testing of materials, to support Dowty in our mission to deliver the next generation of sustainable, high-performance aircraft.

You will be guided by structured goals and objectives and will have responsibility to deliver on inspiring projects supported by your manager and team around you. We will support you throughout the year to ensure you make the best of your GE experience. Your manager will offer coaching and mentoring, and the Company will provide opportunities for continuous professional development.

If you are passionate about Aerospace/Aeronautical/Mechanical/Materials Engineering, we would love to hear from you.
