Manchester, United Kingdom MAG (Mines Advisory Group) Full time

Policy and Advocacy Coordinator

United Kingdom

Starting salary for this position is £34,572 per annum (plus contributory pension)

About MAG:

MAG (Mines Advisory Group) is an international humanitarian organisation based in Manchester, UK, and working in 32 countries. We remove landmines and unexploded ordnance to release safe and productive land for communities, and work to reduce the threat of armed violence by supporting governments to safely manage weapons and ammunition. In 1997, MAG was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for our work campaigning for the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention.

About the role:

Working within our Policy and Strategic Partnerships department, you will support the coordination and delivery of MAG’s organisational policy and advocacy work, including but not limited to our engagement with key treaties, UN programmes, and a range of political actors. You will research and maintain expertise on the policy environment we operate in, working across our programmes and departments to develop the best organisational understandings of policy and advocacy issues. This is a unique and fascinating role in one of MAG’s core departments, and the work you do will directly support us in successfully implementing our 2024 – 2028 Strategic Framework.

About you:

You will be a strong communicator and particularly adept at gathering and processing complex information in order to present to a variety of audiences. You will be experienced in political stakeholder engagement, with awareness of both how policy is operationally implemented and the political issues affecting MAG and the wider sectors we operate in. You will hold a Master’s qualification, or have commensurate professional experience, in a relevant field with experience producing high-quality written analysis and a meticulous attention to detail. Ultimately you will be committed to MAG’s vision, values, and mission, and ready to represent MAG enthusiastically, diplomatically, and professionally.
