PhD Studentship: Investigating Weight Loss in secondary care settings

Loughborough, United Kingdom Loughborough University Full time

Approximately 30% of people are living with obesity, which is a risk factor for many health conditions that require secondary care and costs the NHS £6.1 billion/year. Making Every Contact Count is an NHS flagship programme that aims to use the millions of interactions health care professionals have with patients to promote behaviour change. Implementing and testing these interventions in secondary care may support patients with weight management and improve their health. This PhD seeks to develop evidence in the area of delivering weight loss interventions in secondary care settings, but the successful candidate will be able to shape the direction of the project with their interests and goals together with their supervisors.

This PhD studentship funded as part of an NIHR Advanced fellowship to Dr Claire Madigan who will be the primary supervisor. You will be part of the Centre for Lifestyle Medicine and Behaviour and there will be lots of opportunities for personal development and research skills.

Loughborough University has an applied research culture. In REF 2021, 94% of the work submitted was judged to be top-rated as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. We are a community based on mutual support and collaboration. Through our Doctoral College there are continual opportunities for building important research skills and networks among your peers and research academics.

The total UK consumption of constructional steel in 2021 rose by 16.9% to 803,000 tonnes. Progressive collapse, a catastrophic event with devastating consequences for human life, economic stability, and societal well-being, has been highlighted in several incidents, including the partial collapse of the Champlain Towers in 2021. The rotational capacity of...

Warmer temperatures, extreme droughts, and more intensive convective storms are accelerating deterioration of earthworks, degrading resilience. Climate change is a major national security risk. UK critical infrastructure faces a climate adaptation deficit that will cost up to £1 billion/year by 2050. There is an urgent need to understand why, and anticipate...
