Oxford, United Kingdom University of Oxford Full time

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced HR professional to join the Department of Chemistry. The role is responsible for the delivery of HR operations in the Department, primarily around employee resourcing, managing a team of five HR Officers. Reporting to the Head of HR, you will also support the employee relations and project work within the Department.

As a senior HR professional, you will work with managers and academic employees to ensure that all recruitment and other HR processes are fully compliant with the University’s codes of practice. You will also provide support and coaching to managers, referring to the Head of HR or Divisional HR where appropriate. Continuous improvement is essential in this service based environment, so identification of areas which can be enhanced or developed is critical.

Full details of the post can be found in the job description.

You will be CIPD qualified (or have equivalent experience), with experience of managing others, within an HR function. You will have a strong team ethic and a focus on professional service provision. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to support and motivate teams and the ability to influence senior managers and academics are critical within this role.

Your ability to think analytically, to innovate and problem-solve is essential. Sound knowledge and experience of the application of UK employment law and UKBA regulations are required to ensure compliance at all times.  The ability to manage and prioritise your own workload and the work of the HR team, to adapt to changing priorities, and to meet strict deadlines is essential.

The Department of Chemistry is a large and vibrant community of people made up of academics, teaching, research and support staff and students from a wide variety of backgrounds. We share the common goal to further the discipline of chemistry and its positive impact on society through excellence in teaching and research.

The Department holds an Athena Swan Silver Award and is committed to equality and valuing diversity and welcomes applications from minority groups.

You would be part of a key operational team in a department that supports and encourages professional development and training. The University also offers a wide range of benefits including an excellent contributory pension scheme, 38 days annual leave and a range of family friendly benefits.

This post is permanent, full-time and available immediately. The post will be based in the Inorganic Chemistry Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, South Parks Road, Oxford. This is a permanent, full-time position. We operate a flexible/hybrid working arrangement (minimum 3 days on-site each week) and actively promote a family friendly working environment, including generous provision of family leave.

Applications for the vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application.

If you would like to have an informal discussion about the role please contact Wendy Gillard, Head of HR, wendy.gillard@chem.ox.a.uk

Only applications received before midday on Wednesday 28 August 2024 can be considered. Interviews will be held shortly after the closing date.
