Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

We seek an experienced research nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team investigating circulating biomarkers, especially circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) in cohorts of women at high risk of breast or ovarian cancer. You will be responsible for running the EMBED (Early Markers for BrEast cancer Detection) study as well as consenting patients and collection of blood samples for a substudy of EMBED.  The EMBED study is one component of the Breast and Ovarian cancer Early Detection (BrOvED) project, which is co-led by Professor Nitzan Rosenfeld (Barts Cancer Institute at Queen Mary University of London), Professor Marc Tischkowitz (Department of Medical Genetics) and Professor Doug Easton (Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology) with the aim to develop tests with improved performance for detection of breast and ovarian cancer.

The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Cambridge and based at the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology, Strangeways Research Laboratory with some work based at Cambridge Breast Unit on the Biomedical Campus. As part of the sub-study, you will work with the local investigator and be responsible for recruiting women who have been referred to the Breast Unit because of an abnormal mammogram. You will gain informed consent and undertake venipuncture in accordance with the study protocols.

The successful applicant will have relevant experience of study coordination, the ability to work independently and to work as part of an extensive and varied team. Applicants must hold a current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) and have post-registration experience with a strong grounding in research methodology and governance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check (enhanced with children and adults barred list). This appointment will also require a Research Passport application and a Honorary Clinical Contract which will be issued by the NHS Trust. Any offer of employment we make to you will be conditional upon the satisfactory completion of these checks, whether an outcome is satisfactory will be determined by the University.

The funds for this post are available for 2 years.

This is a full-time position. We also welcome applications for no less than 80% FTE per week.
