Birmingham, United Kingdom St John Wall Catholic School Full time

Saint John Wall Catholic School is an oversubscribed 11‐16 school with a diverse population, serving the community of North West Birmingham. In June 2023, Ofsted judged the school Good with outstanding behaviour and attitudes and outstanding leadership and management. Over 50% of our pupils qualify for additional Pupil Premium funding, and Ofsted said ‘leaders use the funding for disadvantaged pupils creatively and effectively, and ‘consequently disadvantaged pupils achieve well’. There are many different languages spoken by school members, and Ofsted said ‘leaders have thought carefully about the needs of those pupils’.

The Role

·     To support the Catholic ethos of the school and to safeguard the well-being of all pupils in school.

·     To raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress.

·     To be accountable for student progress and development within the Languages Department (MFL, EAL and Community Languages).

·     To develop and enhance the teaching practice of others.

·     To ensure the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum for students studying in the department, in accordance with the aims of the school and the curricular policies determined by the Governing Body and Headteacher.

·     To support the Head of Humanities and Languages with leading, managing and developing the subject/curriculum area.

·     To effectively manage and deploy support staff, financial and physical resources within the department to support the designated curriculum portfolio.

·     To co-ordinate the Quality of Education provided for students in MFL.

·     To lead on whole school EAL Quality of Education, including professional development for teachers, monitoring and intervention to ensure positive outcomes for EAL students.

· To liaise with colleagues and external providers to enable students who speak community languages to gain a qualification where available.
