Job Purpose

At Cadent we are leading the way in the development and execution of one of the UK's most advanced hydrogen pipeline networks at scale to support decarbonisation of industry and electricity generation in the north west of England. 

 

The project is just one of four large scale hydrogen pipeline schemes being developed across our networks.  Join us and this could be the start of an exciting energy transition career at Cadent.

 

We are now looking to expand the HyNet project team with a Project Delivery Engineer who will support our project Operations Readiness (OR) programme.

 

The HyNet OR team are responsible for ensuring Cadent is operationally ready' for the future hydrogen pipeline networks.

 

The project OR programme is comprised of a number of diverse, but integrated, work packages. Key areas of responsibility and co-ordination include:
 

  • Training and competence.
  • Developing the network maintenance and inspection programme and supporting procedures.
  • Hydrogen producer / end-user interface management.
  • Network monitoring and control, and
  • Commissioning and start-up.

 

Successful delivery of these requires not only effective programme management, but also cultivating and maintaining successful relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders.

 

As a key member of the Project's OR team, the role-holder will make an important contribution to successful delivery of the HyNet project through supporting the Head of Project Operations with overall management and co-ordination of the Project's OR programme, and through delivery of individual OR work packages.

 

As the first of a kind' project, the role-holder will also play a key role in developing Cadent's approach to delivery of at-scale hydrogen transportation infrastructure through development of effective and repeatable OR project processes and procedures.

 

Key Responsibilities

The Project Delivery Engineer has the following OR programme management accountabilities:

 

  • Owning and maintaining the project OR master deliverables register, ensuring all HyNet OR requirements are identified, recorded, and have an associated delivery plan.
  • Ensuring all work in the OR team is effectively planned and executed and coordinating multiple OR projects, ensuring interfaces and delivery plans are aligned.
  • Ensuring all OR activities are accurately represented on the project schedule, and regularly updated to reflect the current status. Also ensuring all OR risks are identified and recorded in the project risk register, and suitable risk mitigation plans exist.
  • Working collaboratively with the OR team and internal stakeholders to prepare documentation (including programme status reports and presentations) and close out OR-related actions arising from project governance reviews, project milestones and stage gates.
  • Development of major hydrogen project OR procedures / ways of working for future use.
     

 

The role-holder will also lead the development and delivery of individual OR work packages, with the following accountabilities:

 

  • Ensuring Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) compliance in the development and delivery of OR work packages, and HSE risks are continuously monitored throughout the project lifecycle to ensure early identification and effective mitigation.
  • Defining the OR work package scope, engaging stakeholders to ensure project and business requirements are fully incorporated and clear alignment exists with interdependent Cadent strategies e.g. Operations 4.0.
  • Establishing cost estimates for the OR work package and ensuring suitable budget provision exists.
  • Leading the identification, assessment, selection, and appointment of Contractors, where required, to deliver the OR work package, in accordance with Cadent procurement policies.
  • Reviewing OR-related technical queries and deviations, providing first level response on behalf of the company, as well as leading risk assessments for deviations within the field of responsibility.
  • Tracking and reporting accurate project costs with narrative to the Head of Project Operations and Commercial Manager to enable full audit trail and project financial reconciliation.
  • Preparation of status reports / presentations.  Providing regular written and verbal updates on the status of OR projects to our customers, stakeholders and senior managers.
     

The role-holder will also provide support to the wider HyNet and other major hydrogen project teams, utilising their own specialist knowledge and experience to the benefit of the Cadent hydrogen programme.

 

 

Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Project delivery experience in pipelines, utility networks or process plants.
  • Working knowledge of the UK gas industry and associated safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of gas distribution and transmission engineering standards and procedures.
  • Experience in the commercial and contract management of suppliers.
  • Degree / HNC qualified in an Engineering / Technical discipline or equivalent experience.

 

Desirable:

  • Chartered Engineer status. Experience in operation and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution networks. Experience of project Operations Readiness delivery.
