The Research Strategy & Services Division (RSSD) is looking to recruit a talented individual to join our European and International team who will play a vital part in supporting our researchers with their applications to Horizon Europe ranging from dissemination of opportunities, advice to applications to the set-up of & support to project projects when funded.

Role Summary

As a Research Development Officer (RDO), you'll play a crucial role in supporting researchers who seek and have received funding from the European Union across our Colleges.

Joining our Research Support Team, you'll have the opportunity to engage in all aspects of pre-award research support including research development, competitive grant applications, and supporting research contracts as well as providing follow on support once live with a particular focus on compliance with the terms of legal/research agreements.

Main Duties

  • Work as part of our Research Support (Grants & Contracts) Team, to support our researchers to apply for external research funding, assisting with specific aspects of the proposal including the budget, using agreed University systems and processes including Worktribe and the relevant funder portals.
  • Provide expert support and advice to ensure that academics are able to deliver their projects according to terms and conditions of the funders and where necessary the collaboration agreements in place with external organisations for European Framework Programme projects (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe as well as those projects funded under the UKRI underwrite) as well as US federal funded projects.
  • Support researchers to compete effectively for research grant funding by providing advice and guidance on funder rules, eligibility, costs, and strategic fit as well as funder expectations as to the presentation of the proposal and associated costs to ensure a strong proposal.
  • Assist researchers in preparing for funder panel interviews and running funder workshops, supporting academics to identify suitable funding opportunities for their research.
  • Liaise with external partners and stakeholders to facilitate smooth contract negotiations and project setup.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Experience of working successfully in any one of the following areas: research support, bid development, regulatory, or contracts environment, or relevant legal training.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high-quality customer service, with a focus on meeting the needs of researchers.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively manage a client-facing portfolio.
  • Knowledge of research contracts and/or research funding regulations, with the ability to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
