Department Overview The University has an exciting vision to build on the success of REF2021, by continuing to transform its research performance across outputs, income, impact, and policy influence. Central to this ambition is the Research Strategy & Services Division (RSSD), a new Professional Services department that is being established to provide a transformative and sector-leading approach to research strategy and support. The Research Systems & Data Team brings together expertise and capacity across the major institutional systems that support research, including Worktribe, Oracle Fusion, and Pure; support institutional engagement with external funder and performance systems; lead and support strategic change programmes relating to systems and process improvement, including initially pre-to-post award handover and grant set up, and effective post award management via the Fusion system; operate as the Research Systems Oversight Board, receiving and considering systems requests from the RSSD teams and beyond, agreeing key priorities and advocating for these in institutional committees such as the Business Systems Committee; and provide a help-desk and training service to staff from across the RSSD, wider Professional Services, and the Academy in engagement and utilising key institutional research systems. The team also has a key cross-RSSD, institutional role to play with regards to open research, support for the REF, external funder audits, CRM management, Business Intelligence and data reporting, taking a leadership role in driving a new culture of data based decision making around research strategy & support, and being well connected internally and across the sector to bring innovation to Birmingham.

**Job Summary**

The role of Research Information and Systems Officer (Research Support and Reporting) sits within the newly created Research Systems & Data Team which has been formed to provide strategic and expert practitioner support to the University’s research systems (internal and external) research data and the digital research environment. This team will play a key leadership role in the institutional Digital Research Strategy, ensuring that the needs of research are well represented and delivered. It will underpin the delivery of first class research support by the provision of excellent underpinning research systems and data support, and will be well connected across the sector, bringing best practice and innovation to Birmingham. The team also plays a key role in supporting the regulatory compliance environment for research at the University.

The post holder will work collaboratively as part of a flexible and resilient customer focussed team. They will support the goal of creating an effective systems support hub where all team members have a working knowledge of all key systems, facilitated by knowledge transfer from system experts to the wider team, and where team members contribute to activities outside their specific functional responsibilities in order to contribute as fully as possible to the overall service provision to stakeholders.
