Riverside Bridge School is a Special School for pupils aged from 4 – 16, which opened in September 2015. This School serves families and pupils in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and neighbouring boroughs. It is closely integrated with Riverside Primary School, which also opened in September 2015 and Riverside School, a mainstream secondary school. The school is currently undergoing a large expansion and is moving to a split site school. This vacancy is for the new site which will be opened in September 2022.

Pupils are admitted within the following categories of special needs:

  • Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
  • Severe learning difficulties (SLD)

      We are keen to attract a Caretaker who will work over a rota shift of early shift and late shift. Early shift hours are 6am – 1:30pm, Late shift hours are 10:30am – 6pm. Previous caretaking experience isn’t essential, but a good understanding of a school’s requirements would be an advantage.   

      This post will carry a responsibility for some callouts to the School sites, which could be during evenings, overnight or weekends. Any callouts receive an overtime payment as agreed by the trust rate. In addition, occasional evening or weekend work may be required for school events.

      Responsibilities will include:

      • Carrying out day-to-day maintenance and repairs;
      • Making sure that the school grounds are well presented;
      • Maintain fences/boundaries ensuring they are secure and safe;
      • Checking the premises to guard against vandalism or break-ins;
      • Porterage duties;
      • Regular maintenance and safe use of gardening equipment and machinery;
      • Gardening including maintaining lawns, planting and any outdoor areas.

        • A positive attitude to teamwork and the flexibility needed for working in a school environment;
        • Self-motivation and the ability to work unsupervised;
        • Physical fitness;
        • Experience of working with machinery and tools
