What it's like to work here

Tredegar House is loved by visitors for its warm welcome. The House has about 90 rooms in total, and is situated in 90 acres of gardens and parkland. You'll be part of a team that is committed to caring for the property and delivering a great experience for our visitors. Reporting to the Collections and House Manager, you'll be a key part of the House team. You'll work collaboratively with the other teams on site, especially the Volunteer Coordinators, Programming and Partnerships Officer and wider Visitor Experience team.

We're a busy property with seasonal and cultural programming activities and events, building conservation work - and sometimes filming across the year

You'll also cover Duty Management, so weekend and evening working, shared with 7 other colleagues, should be expected.

You'll be based entirely at Tredegar House, which is just off the M4, a few miles from Newport and about 8 from Cardiff.

What you'll be doing

As the Collections and House Officer, you'll be responsible for opening the house every day, and making sure there are enough people in the right places to give visitors a consistently good experience.

You'll be responsible for routine conservation, preventive conservation and the annual programme of deep cleaning. Your attention and expertise will help to ensure excellent standards of care throughout the house.

You'll collect and record information gathered during cleaning and housekeeping, to improve our knowledge and understanding of the house and all that's in it. You'll use preventive conservation methods to improve how we look after everything, and how we present it to visitors.

You'll manage a team of two Collections Assistants and volunteer teams that range from the Hosts to Conservation and Archive. There's a great opportunity to establish some new volunteer roles to help us care for the collections and engage with the public. Working with contractors and the other teams, you'll need to be a good communicator and team player.
