We protect everything from bats to buildings to beaches - and we want to share them with everyone too. But how do we care for our special places, while helping everyone to enjoy them and their fascinating stories? It’s no small task. In fact, it’s a big team effort and it’s why our Collections Assistant are so important.

This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

What it's like to work here:Tredegar House stands proudly at the heart of Newport’s heritage. For more than 500 years the house was home the Morgan family, whose lives impacted on the population of south-east Wales socially, economically and politically. We now welcome over 400,000 visitors a year to the surviving 90 acres of the estate.

What you'll be doing:As Volunteering & Community Officer, you'll support us in creating a positive, flexible and inclusive environment for existing and future volunteers, communities, and partners. Working across all departments, you’ll help deliver our plan to involve volunteers. This will include supporting volunteer recruitment days.

This role may involve volunteer line management, with the expectation of some weekend and evening working by arrangement.

- Who we're looking forDemonstrate a sound understanding of volunteering and be enthusiastic about promoting the benefits of great volunteer involvement and opportunities
- Be passionate and enthusiastic about working with volunteers and understand the differences between staff and volunteers, particularly the legal frameworks
- Have excellent customer services and communication skills
- Have a flexible approach and be a great team player, be able to lead on and work with other people's agendas towards a common purpose
- Be well organised and attentive to detail
- A sound working knowledge of volunteering principles and practice
- IT skills (Microsoft Office)
- Knowledge and experience of budget management
