About the job

Alfa Laval is a leading global supplier of products and solutions for heat transfer, separation and fluid handling through our key products – heat exchangers, separators, pumps and valves. The focus of this role would be within heat exchangers in the capacity of Field Service and Sales Support Engineer.

Our team of Field Service Engineers are on the front line of customer support, carrying out servicing and maintenance of Alfa Laval equipment and associated products. Alfa Laval field service engineers ensure a high-quality service to customers and are a key part of our service business.

In conjunction with this activity we also look to embed sales activities to support the growth of the product in the area and to develop new customers and installed equipment into our service frameworks.

You will be home based attending customer sites daily, across the UK&I but with the majority focus in Scotland. Some overnight stays at times will be required. You will also be expected to participate in our 24 hour call out system and work some weekends on a roster basis.

You will be working on heat exchange products providing field service support, trouble shooting and training at customer locations on the mechanical, electrical, and electronic components of our thermal equipment ensuring reliable operation, optimum performance and efficiency. This includes performing preventive maintenance, emergency and warranty repairs, installation supervision and commissioning of new equipment, system audits, process troubleshooting and technical support.

Your duties will include:

  • Commissioning, servicing and fault finding of new and existing equipment.
  • Assist and train customer maintenance and supervisory personnel on how to operate our equipment and perform maintenance tasks.
  • Performing trial test runs when work is completed to ensure performance rates and quality meet established specifications.
  • Providing process and technical support to the department and customers.
  • Meeting KPIs for the service team in areas such as submission of job reports and timesheets

Also, from the sales perspective you will work alongside the Regional Account Managers, you will be able to interpret the service department’s sales strategy and help to develop plans to successfully identify appropriate customers and win opportunities within our chosen sectors, as well as the following:

  • Identify key decision makers and effectively present and sell the business along with its full range of unique selling points for each of our service offerings.
  • Manage the sales process from start to finish and create winning sales strategies.
  • Manage customer relationships and identify their relevant needs.
  • Support the Product & Application Engineers with detailed and winning quotations for additional equipment, spares, and service.
  • Support the Service Operations Team to commercially manage projects from beginning to end.
  • Provide a high level of commercial awareness to ensure service agreements and scope changes are delivered in the most cost-effective manner.
  • Provide sales strategy input at internal and external review meetings.
  • Always strive to add value to our customers, building partnerships based on trust, respect, and flexibility
  • Communicate effectively at all times and provide an unrivalled service experience, unexpected and beyond anything our competitors provide.
  • You will be the face of the business as you travel to customer’s facilities to help identify their requirements and expectations.

About You

You have robust practical understanding and experience, working on heat transfer equipment. You have great customer relation skills to build develop and sell work activities and packages. You are curious about technology and applications in heat transfer. You are motivated to build long lasting relationships and deliver excellent customer experience. You are Self-motivated to work under your own steam and creativity. You are committed to your work activities – going the extra mile to ensure completion and service excellence.

Ideally you should have completed a recognised apprenticeship or have reached a minimum level of technical training i.e. City and Guilds/NVQ/BTEC.

You must be able to demonstrate a strong working background in mechanical and electrical maintenance.

You are self-motivated, details orientated and numerate. You must be able to demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, good organisation and planning and enjoy working alone as well as part of a wider team.

You should have a good level of competence with respect to electronic equipment testing, fault finding, reading schematic diagrams and using PLC’s.

Exposure to Alfa Laval core equipment would be advantageous.

Previous industry backgrounds could include wastewater, food and brewery, food processing plants, power stations, factory automation, marine or military.

You should be able to spend several nights away from home as required. Due to the nature of the work, including the environment in which the work is often carried out, you are required to have a good level of physical fitness. A full driving licence is also essential.

The selected candidate will be located in the upper central belt of Scotland in order to best serve our customers at short notice.
