Reporting to the Director of IT Services, the Assistant Director IT Business Technology Services will be responsible for ensuring that the University’s IT platforms meet our business needs, able to protect, support and enhance the full breadth of services that will be delivered either on-campus, purely digitally or in a blended model.  The services currently provided by BTS include, HR platforms, Finance platforms, PS Connect platforms and CRM platforms, it is expected that this platform remit will expand to commercial and estate services platforms in 2025 onwards.

The successful candidate will lead the BTS function including all staff and processes.  You will work with senior colleagues and business leaders to develop and ensure that the organisation’s technology delivery roadmaps and BTS roadmaps are aligned and supporting our ‘Strategy 2030’.

Working with the IT Operating Board, service owners and platform providers you will set out a technology roadmap for our business technology services, meeting the needs of staff and students.

This role will support the University’s vision to lead the way in providing new and existing outstanding IT services and products to our staff and students. You will also proactively find and capitalise on opportunities for IT-led innovation and the creative configuration of applications and platforms to support education, research, and professional services. 

You will seek to implement a product delivery approach whenever possible and collaborate with the business and key colleagues in IT Services to maintain and deliver the BTS Technology Roadmap. 

The ideal Candidate will:

  • Have educational attainment at higher education level (or demonstrable equivalent experience) and hold recognised Professional IT Qualifications to demonstrate commitment to learning
  • Have a thorough understanding of delivery approaches and trends within technology
  • Have good knowledge of IS methodologies, standards, and architectural frameworks
  • Have a proven ability and track record in devising and delivering complex changes, products and services on time, to scope and to budget
  • Have proven ability to understand, mitigate, and manage delivery risk
  • Have relevant experience and organisational relationships in developing and deploying BTS (technology) roadmaps that underpin services and products
  • Have significant recent senior manager experience of a similar role within a complex public or private sector organisation
  • Be an exceptional communicator with the ability to articulate complex ideas and a passion for delivery, noting the platforms in scope for BTS
  • Have experience of engaging with the wider external IT community on matters of software applications, infrastructure, technical architecture, and emerging technologies.
  • Be an experienced people manager with a proven track record in leadership, driving outstanding performance, and motivating teams through effective coaching and inspiration.
  • Have experience in the close monitoring of project revenue and capital budgets, forecasting multiyear investment delivery plans
  • Be a strategic thinker with experience influencing stakeholders

Reasonable Travel is expected for this role (for example to vendor meetings / conferences etc.). This role will be subject to additional background screening.

£63,335 to £79,795 per annum on Grade H, depending on qualifications and experience
