The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service would like to invite applications for the permanent position of Youth Engagement Officer, based in North Service Delivery Area. The applicant will be required to work 35 hours a week and travel to locations across the North Service Delivery Area to support various events and activities. The SFRS, have a homeworking, agile working and hybrid working policies to support applicants. 

This is a full time post however applications from individuals seeking to work on a part time, job share or flexible working basis would be considered.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Youth Engagement programmes. The post holder will be responsible for the development and review of educational and engagement activities and ensure sessions are co-ordinated, evaluated and that SFRS personnel are supported in the development of necessary Youth Engagement skills. The candidate will develop and deliver required youth engagement and safeguarding training to personnel and keep updated with relevant legislation and frameworks relating to children and young people. The post holder will be required to work with the wider Prevention Function and Heritage team to develop cross curricular resources to utilise in the Museum of Fire and outreach activities.

Essential Criteria  

- Educated to degree level in a relevant professional field (for example Community Learning and Development, Social Work, Teaching) or can demonstrate equivalent experience  

-The ability to write policy, procedures and guidance and manage projects 

-The ability to apply knowledge of heath and safety as it is applicable to the job role -The ability to actively listen, respond, engage and communicate with young people-Excellent written and verbal communication skills

-Knowledge of the relevant Child Protection policies/legislation and how to ensure compliance by oneself and others

Salary on appointment will normally be at the lower salary point, with progression subject to regular review - in line with the SFRS performance appraisal arrangements.  A higher salary placing will be considered in exceptional circumstances subject to experience demonstrated.

The successful candidate will be required to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme and will be required to carry out regulated work with adults and children.
