To support the UK’s national centre for excellence for ground and space-based astronomy we have an opportunity for an Estates Operations and Safety Manager to assist in the delivery of STFC’s vision and mission.

This is a key role at the STFC Royal Observatory Edinburgh, leading the supportive Estates Services team in the provision of an efficient, effective and customer focussed estates and facilities management service.

The role holder will have a high degree of autonomy and principal accountability for the efficient and effective service delivery and the compliant operation of the STFC Estate and technical infrastructure that directly enables research output, including all aspects of built environment projects resilience, compliance and health and safety.

The post-holder will need to be confident managing internal teams and contracted service providers in the delivery of maintenance and facilities services and project delivery with equal composure and efficiency.

This is a fast-paced, varied, demanding, and interesting role, in which a productivity focused, highly organised and enthusiastic but methodical professional will thrive.

It is an exciting time to join the Estates Services team as we continue our ‘One Team’ approach to service improvement and strive for excellence across the STFC portfolio.

Essential Shortlisting Criteria:

  • Degree or Level 6 qualification in a construction related discipline (facilities management, engineering, building surveying, structural, construction) or significant and extensive experience in leading a team in the delivery of built environment projects or project programs.
  • CDM 2015 for Clients
  • IOSH Managing Safely/IOSH Managing Construction Safely/NEBOSH General Certificate
  • UKATA Asbestos Awareness
  • Institute of Leadership and Management Level 3.

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of leading a team of estates personnel in a similar environment
  • Experience of delivering engineering or construction projects
  • High level competency and experience in IT skills, including MS project and dashboard development (MS Office)
  • Previous experience of leading health and safety teams or activities.
