The Role:

This is a senior management role with responsibility for the overall leadership of HR and Talent Management. You will work closely with senior management, embedding and encouraging a culture of fairness, openness and accountability.

The Head of Human Resources will lead practices and define objectives that will provide an employee-oriented high performance culture emphasising quality, productivity and empowerment.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will work closely with colleagues in London and across the Group to ensure all HR duties are undertaken in accordance with employment law, Group & local company policy and that any risk to the business is minimised.

  • People Strategy:  Owner of the human resource strategy aligned with our business objectives and the Group People and Culture strategy. 
  • Business Performance Coach:  Act as a trusted sparring partner and coach to senior managers, supporting and challenging them on people decisions. Provide solutions and coaching to support growth, development, high-performance and transformation. 
  • Talent Management & Succession Planning:  Lead the talent management process to ensure internal talent is developed and retained and under-performance is addressed and managed. Lead the succession planning process. Work with senior managers to uncover any significant talent gaps to meet long-term objectives and create a long-term workforce plan that prioritises people related initiatives. 
  • Employee Engagement:  Oversee and monitor employee engagement. Conduct regular surveys and provide advice and insights to management. Ensure feedback from employees is collated and interpreted correctly to help improve employee engagement. 
  • Ambassador of Hannover Re Strategy, Purpose and Values:  Support management in promoting the Hannover Re purpose & values. Closely collaborate with the Managing Director – Human Resources in Home Office and contribute to Group-wide initiatives. 
  • Recruitment:  Lead all aspects of external and internal recruitment to ensure high quality candidates are appointed. 
  • Compensation and Benefits:  Coordinate the annual salary review process and the annual bonus scheme. Conduct salary benchmarking, complete surveys and recommend appropriate pay packages for recruitment and retention purposes. 
  • International Mobility: Liaise with other Hannover Re companies in relation to secondees to/from London. 
  • Policies and Procedures: Keep up to date with UK employment legislation and ensure management is aware of the implications of impending changes. Update policies and procedures ensuring they reflect current practice and local legal and regulatory requirements. 
  • Learning and Development:  Lead initiatives to drive organisational learning and development and assist management in the development of their employees. 
  • Performance Management:  Coordinate the annual performance review process to ensure employees are appropriately assessed and rewarded for exceptional performance. Ensure fair and consistent treatment of employees through monitoring of performance management outcomes and application of the bonus scheme. Support managers in managing areas of under-performance.
  • Employee Communications:  Monitor employee engagement and morale and recommend initiatives as appropriate. Educate employees on policies and practices. 
  • Employee Relations:  Adopt best practice in line with the Employee Handbook for dealing with grievance and disciplinary issues to ensure a prompt and satisfactory resolution.
  • Reporting:  Define KPIs. Monitor, measure and report on HR issues, opportunities and development plans and achievements. 
  • Ad hoc:  Contribute to Global Talent Management projects as needed and appropriate. Work across organisational borders ensuring that human resource processes are managed consistently, and best practice is applied.
About You:

Requirements for the Role: 
• The ability to develop and lead organisational strategies in HR. 
• A proven track record in talent management, succession planning and employee development. 
• Up to date knowledge of employment law. 
• Experience of developing HR policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance. 
• The ability to develop and deliver learning and development programmes for employees at all levels or liaise with external providers to provide the same. 
• Experience of introducing new ideas to improve employee engagement. 
• The ability to compile and deliver engaging presentations to colleagues at all levels. 
• Ability to manage a demanding workload and operate well under pressure. • Strong interpersonal and excellent communication skills. 

 

 
Experience and Qualifications: 
• Experience of leading an effective HR team. 
• Experience of working in an ever-changing fast paced environment. 
• At least 10 years’ experience, ideally in Financial Services. 
• Degree qualified. 
• CIPD qualification.
