Overview:

MacTaggart Scott are looking to recruit a Head of Supply Chain, who will report directly to the Commercial Director. The Head of Supply Chain role exists to provide strategic leadership and management of the MacTaggart Scott Supply Chain function and to ensure optimal supplier performance.

Role:

The Head of Supply Chain will be required to continue the development of the existing function by the creation of a Supply Chain strategy, and the implementation of a supporting plan, which ensures that the function is operating in accordance with the objectives of the business, it continuously adds value, mitigates supply chain risks, delivers cost savings, brings goods in on time and builds longer term, strategic supplier mutually beneficial business relationships.

There will be a need to manage the continuous improvement of the function, coach and develop the associated staff members and ultimately get the best out of the team on an ongoing basis, delivering to and providing the required level of service required in accordance with business objectives.

Duties will include:

  • Delivering functional performance to quality levels, cost targets agreed, scope and schedule adherence to business needs.
  • Responsible for departmental management, resource planning and creating a culture which supports the business objectives and meets customer deliverables.
  • Creating and implementing best procurement practice throughout including vision, strategy, policies, processes, and procedures to aid and improve business performance. Specifically, to ensure that procurement strategies and processes are in place to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality, and delivery targets, which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the marketplace.
  • Develop relationships to negotiate and buy goods, materials, and services to meet the Company’s operational requirements in a timely, efficient, and effective manner. The role includes supplier selection, involvement in tendering and cost estimating.
  • Responsible for managing relationships and negotiating with key suppliers at a senior and strategic level.
  • Managing and updating as required, robust standard terms and conditions to use with the supply base and liaising with the Commercial Department to determine appropriate flow downs from customer Prime Contracts.
  • Not exhaustive, but typically negotiating contract terms and schedules with key suppliers which meets business needs, ensuring that appropriate risk is shared in the Supply Chain, ensuring that the Company secures value for money from suppliers, that the quality standards from suppliers are met, agreeing delivery terms, and ensuring that technical and scope requirements are met with the support of the wider internal stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance.
  • Be the point of escalation for all procurement and supply chain issues.
  • Support customer audits and competency assessments as required.
  • Provide clear and pro-active leadership and guidance to the team, coordinate, and coach the team to required performance levels, ensuring that they are trained adequately, enabling them to achieve the operational and financial metrics within their areas of responsibility and can succeed in their roles.
  • Complete regular performance reviews including improvement plans, manage standard personnel matters (e.g. attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues), including staff competency and skills management.
  • Contribute to overall business strategy and annual budget process.
  • Present a suite of procurement metrics at the organizational monthly Sales & Operations Planning Meeting and support the Company Contract Review process.
  • Monitor supplier performance, ensuring adherence to agreed delivery metrics, and in cases of failures ensure reasons for non-performance are clearly understood and communicated. Support roll out and management of relevant ESG measures.
  • Ensure that all procurement data (including but not limited to price, lead times and validity) is up to date, maintained and reviewed on the ERP system to assist budget forecasts and with the bidding processes of the business.

Essential skills, experience, and knowledge requirements:

  • Candidates must hold a relevant primary Degree or master’s degree within a business, procurement, or related field.
  • CIPS qualified minimum level 4
  • Have full existing membership of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS).
  • Senior management experience, including demonstrable successful leadership of a team, with at least 3 of the last 5 years Procurement / Supply Chain Management experience specifically (including providing specialist procurement advice to Board level/Senior Management).
  • Change Management expert – highly collaborative & ability to lead change.
  • Strong Leadership Qualities - be able to coach and develop staff members to get the best out of the team.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
  • Systems & data driven – needs knowledge of ERP systems and data analysis.
  • An open and effective communicator at all levels, from individual contributors to Senior management.
  • Competency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, Project & Power Point.
  • Be a team player who is positive and able to work positively and collaboratively with the wider stakeholder community both internal and external.
