Head of Clinical and Advanced Practice

National role

£70 - £75K plus company car or car allowance

35 hours per week

A new and exciting opportunity has become available for a dynamic and highly skilled advanced practice nurse who thrives on being at the forefront of clinical practice and is ready to lead a program of change in social care as Head of Clinical and Advanced Practice at Sanctuary Care.

Reporting to Director of Quality and Clinical Improvement the role will design, implement and deliver an Advanced Practice service across specialist nursing homes nationally in line with the Clinical Strategy, as well contributing to the creation of an upskilled nursing workforce that is fit for the future using Advanced Practice and benefits recruitment, retention, job satisfaction and an exceptional skill set within social care.

Regular travel is required so it’s essential you have a driving licence.

The role of the Head of Clinical and Advanced Practice will include:

  • Support the Director of Quality and Clinical Improvement to deliver the Clinical Strategy in respect of the introduction and ongoing delivery of Advanced Clinical Practice into the organization.
  • Work in an Advanced Practice capacity to provide autonomous clinical advice, leadership, education, training, guidance and expertise to residential and nursing homes across the organisation to deliver practice-based support, guidance and action to achieve sustainable improvements in nursing practice and professional issues.
  • Work with senior operational colleagues to identify nurses suitable to undertake a program of advanced practice upskilling. Create a new advanced practice career pathway for identified registered nurses in designated services to include step on step off advanced practice skills pathways and completion of MSc Advanced Practice programs in entirety.
  • Provide support and guidance as a subject matter expert in frailty for nurses undertaking advanced practice courses to ensure successful completion of academic programs and practical application in the workplace.
  • Act as a mentor for registered nurses undertaking advanced practice skills and pathways of development. Support completion of the credentialisation process for those becoming Advanced Clinical/Nurse Practitioners.
  • Ensure delivery of all four pillars of Advanced Practice by leading and participating in: Advanced Clinical Practice, Leadership & Management, Education & Research.
  • Create and lead practice development forums for clinical practice, Advanced Practice, non-medical prescribing.
  • Write, implement and maintain policy, procedures and competency frameworks for advanced practice skills. Maintain knowledge and competence in issues of regulation, legislation, clinical & advanced practice, professional issues, best practice, research, policy & procedure.
  • Improve measurable outcomes for residents through the delivery of Advanced Practice to improve quality of life and avoidance of potentially unnecessary hospital transfers and admissions.
  • Provide leadership, support and guidance to ensure the effective practical application of theoretical principles and training concepts, acting as a role model for excellence in the delivery of practice and standards.
  • To represent the quality and clinical improvement team internally and externally, deputising for the Director of Quality & Clinical Improvement as and when required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues from other departments across the business to ensure continuous improvements and high standards of care quality. Contribute to and lead in quality improvement projects and change processes to improve the standards of care and contribute, as appropriate, to special programs and projects in support of the Group’s values and objectives.

Skills and experience:

  • Proven recent relevant Advanced Clinical Practice experience in health or social care
  • Proven knowledge and experience of using Advanced Practice skills across the four pillars
  • Experience of clinical leadership and management
  • Experience of Advanced Clinical Practice including non-medical prescribing, clinical assessment, and diagnostic reasoning.
  • Participation in research and application of evidence as a basis for clinical practice
  • Working across traditional professional clinical boundaries and with multi professional teams and organisations
  • Experience of education, practice development, teaching, and practice support
  • Proven experience of working to deadlines and prioritising conflicting demands
  • Experience of improving nursing practice and professional issues
  • Experience of change management and/or working within challenged services
  • Proven ability to manage effective delivery of improvement projects
  • A masters degree in a relevant subject
