Technical Lead - Systems Engineering

As part of D2’s continued growth and success, we are currently looking to add a seasoned Rail professional to the Rail Engineering & Design team as a Technical Lead - Systems Engineering.

Role

The role of Technical Lead is that of a subject matter expert and to lead the Systems Engineering Team. The Technical Lead will be responsible for identifying, defining and integrating interfaces across the railway system, interfacing with the wider project processes and assurances including Requirements, System Safety, RAMS and Entry into Service. You will be required to provide strong leadership and technical knowledge for verification and validation of all stages of GRIP/PACE lifecycle to meet the overall project requirements. This role will be involved in a range of railway projects across the UK and Canada. You will be required to ensure compliance to all relevant Rail, British, European and global standards. The role will include development and management of the Systems Engineering Team to support the D2 growth plan. You will also be required to work autonomously and within a growing Engineering and Design team providing strategic advice and knowledge associated with rail engineering.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure that staff are competent and, where necessary, licensed to undertake the level of engineering required on any bid or project, including any (multi-disciplinary) Engineer Management roles.
  2. Work with the Head of Engineering and Design and Discipline Leads to develop the regional capability strategy including identifying specialist services.
  3. Develop the capability in line with the predicted workload of projects and the future value propositions being evolved.
  4. Monitor training requirements across the engineering management team and ensure they have been included in the Business Plan.
  5. Provide direction and leadership to deliver planned growth, development, competency and mentoring of staff within the engineering management discipline.
  6. Undertake annual appraisals of engineering management staff.
  7. Direct the recruitment, training and mentoring of staff within the engineering management discipline to meet the competency requirements identified by the Head of Engineering and Design.
  8. Ensure that all bids and projects have defined multidisciplinary competency requirements.
  9. Develop the marketing strategy and represent D2 as engineering management lead.
  10. Lead on the engineering management of multi-disciplinary projects.
  11. Lead on Innovation and promotion of Standard or Best practice.
  12. Interface with Resource Management tools (PBR) to maximise utilisation across the account.
Qualifications

Qualifications: Diploma in management or proven successful track record in general management Full Driving Licence - must be prepared to travel and work away from home BSc, BEng, or MSc in Engineering Chartered Engineer; Fellow of relevant Institution desirable

Experience
  1. Experience in the production and delivery of technical papers and delivery of technical seminars.
  2. Experience with CSM-RA.
  3. Experience of working in a design and construction environment.
  4. Previous experience of working on multi-disciplinary rail projects.
  5. Proven track record in the delivery of specific engineering service line with an innovative approach to solving client problems.
  6. Proven track record in the training, mentoring and development of staff to achieve appropriate professional qualifications and career ambitions.
  7. Significant experience in area of expertise with experience in the relevant sector in a senior position.
  8. Experience of working in a design and construction environment.
  9. Experience in understanding, interpreting and communicating the technical requirements of our Contracts and in particular specifications and appropriate standards.
