Job Description

Gilead Sciences, Inc. is a research-based biopharmaceutical company that discovers, develops and commercializes innovative medicines in areas of unmet medical need. Director, HIV Prevention Medical Affairs

We are looking for a highly motivated Medical Affairs Director who is passionate about person-centered HIV prevention and Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP). Candidate must be a self-starter with a proven track record of success in prior roles. They will play a critical and exciting role in helping the Medical Affairs organization support current PrEP therapies and launch its future HIV prevention pipeline products. The Director will report into and will work directly with the Global team.

Essential Duties and Job Function

  • Oversee Global Support for ACE (Australia, Canada, and European) affiliates and HIV Prevention Support across key POA activities, including content and Phase 4
  • Key contributor and knowledge expert for HIV Prevention Global Medical Affairs
  • Develop and execute Phase 4 Implementation Strategy for US and Global HIV Prevention, in conjunction with Global Medical Affairs Research and IEP Leads
  • Develop and execute HIV Prevention Center of Excellence in conjunction with US Medical HIV Prevention team
  • Support Launch Readiness and execution of Global Launch Plan
  • Independently manages projects related to analysis of novel, emerging data and determine relevant information to incorporate into medical content trainings
  • Participates in Medical Affairs global activities including management of publication and conference data and medical sub team meetings.
  • Works collaboratively with Gilead personnel across ACE and multiple functional areas, including Commercial, Marketing, Clinical Research, Pharmacovigilance and Epidemiology, Public Affairs, Government Affairs, Regulatory, and Legal to align indication strategic plan
  • Attends medical conferences to assess/gather relevant information and support activities related to conference planning, execution including medical affairs conference deck development and training.
  • Collaborates with Executive Director to develop a global Medical Affairs Plan of Action and ensure alignment of team activities
  • Design, develop, and deliver ACE specific Medical Affairs learning events and content
    • Directly provides training of Medical Affairs staff globally or ensures that provisions are in place to have the training carried out by other internal subject matter experts or external resources
  • Work with the Global Medical Affairs L&D team to implement defined training programs aligned with the Therapeutic Area plans of action.
  • Leads the development of scientific training materials by partnering with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to select, manage, and evaluate vendors and externally produced work product

Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • MD, DO, NP, PA, PharmD or other advanced health care degree
  • 5+ years of ACE experience in region
  • 3+ years industry experience preferred
  • Relevant clinical and/or public health experience in HIV prevention
  • Experience in provision of medical information, slide development, medical writing and promotional review committee preferred
  • Experience in implementation science
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are required, with experience in preparing and delivering PowerPoint presentations
  • Experienced with person centered care desired
  • Committed to continuing education to maintain knowledge base
  • Ability to utilize moderately complex scientific resources across a variety of different settings
  • Ability to work collaboratively and experience working on cross-functional teams
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international conferences which will include occasional weekend travel is required
