Research Data Manager Milton Keynes / Oxford £19.41 per hour 37 hours a week ASAP Start until end of July 2024 Hybrid working model Sue Hill Recruitment are delighted to be working with this educational provider who are seeking to recruit a Temporary Research Data Manager to provide support for Research Data Management engagement and compliance and to contribute to the adoption and development of relevant policies including open access and ORCID amongst the organisations research community. The role includes the provision of expert advice, assistance and training to research staff and students on the requirements of research funders in relation to the management of research data (including considering implications relating to commercial data). The post-holder is expected to cascade their knowledge of open research with colleagues in Library Services and other professional service units including promoting awareness of funder policies relating to research data. A significant aspect of the role is to support research rigour and best practice, and to reduce the burden on academics. By helping to facilitate the sharing and re-use of research data, the role will help to increase the visibility, impact, and integrity of research outputs by linking publications to the underlying data. This role can be worked on site in either Milton Keynes or Oxford on a hybrid model which can be discussed with the client Duties / Tasks A core part of the role to ensure the RDM strategy and policy is fit for purpose, complies with funder requirements, and is being adhered to by researchers. Working closely with colleagues in the Research and Innovation Office, all three libraries and staff in IT to develop appropriate ongoing Research Data Management (RDM) services. Significant contribution to and regular review of the relevant policies. Working proactively with stakeholders to identify and prioritise future requirements in the area of research data management. Providing regular statistics, progress and compliance reports to stakeholders, by collecting, collating, analysing on qualitative and quantitative information in relation to research data management, including information relating to impact and re-use of research data. This will include providing data availability statement feedback to the Excellence in Scholarship reviews. Developing and refining the organisations guidelines and provide supporting materials on good research data practice, following FAIR data principles. Maintenance and development of the RDM Strategy in partnership with IT. Providing forecasts on future data storage requirements. Contributing to discussions and sharing information with the Library Research Support Team, and other library colleagues as required. Developing and implementing a top down and bottom up advocacy strategy, promoting support and best practice, and ensuring it is fully embedded into research workflows. Providing an RDM enquiry service for researchers. This will be delivered via online and in-person support, including provision of drop-in sessions. Answering external enquiries and requests for access to research data, including liaising with researchers if data files are not accessible. Planning and delivering a comprehensive programme of RDM training, to support staff, students, and library staff in developing RDM skills and knowledge. This will include online and face-to-face training sessions, and research support webinars. Supporting researchers with the internal processes to make data and metadata available, and maintenance of records of publicly funded research projects to ensure compliance with funder requirements. Advising on funding council requirements for compiling Data Management Plans; data citation standards, data analysis and mining; data migration, formats, version control; copyright, licencing and IPR issues. Developing and implementing processes for deposit, storage, metadata creation, sharing, copyright compliance, publishing, and preservation of datasets. Ensuring appropriate metadata schemas are in place to ensure data discovery and advise on the configuration of the data repository, including metadata standards and research workflows in an RDM context. Advising on administrative, maintenance, and integration tasks within the repository in relation to research data management. This includes liaison both internally, with the data repository supplier, and with external communities to ensure best practice. Evaluating tools for data preservation and apply the most relevant tools for curation. Person specification Experience working in research data management or research support in HE. Current awareness of issues surrounding research data management, Open Access, Scholarly communications, research administration and digitization. Experience of engaging with academic staff. Experience of developing presentations and training sessions including webinars. Experience of digital preservation and/or research data management systems. Experience of providing a customer focused service. Experience of using repositories and other systems for data management. Understanding of Research Council requirements in relation to Research Data Management. Detailed understanding of Metadata standards for research data. An understanding of the DataCite standard for research data. Knowledge of data formats. Knowledge of FAIR data principles. Understanding of technical issues in relation to database management (e.g. DSpace or similar repository software). Understanding of the Data Protection Act, copyright legislation, IPR, and licencing, especially the Creative Commons family oflicences. Good ICT skills specifically MS Office.
