We are looking to grow our team and expertise, and have a vacancy for a Principal Infrastructure Engineer to develop and evolve our service to meet the fast-changing needs of our partners. This unique role offers the opportunity to play a critical part in protecting some of the UK's most sensitive assets and information.
As a Principal Infrastructure Engineer you will be responsible for the design, build, management and support of the infrastructure services that underpin all Rosa services. You will work with our technical architects to translate the architectural designs into operations.
As one of three Principal Engineers within the Technical Engineering and Operations (TEO) function, you will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer in leading multiple infrastructure teams across London and East Kilbride/Glasgow. You will be responsible for the continued operation and future capabilities of our core infrastructure services.
In this role you will be responsible for managing infrastructure projects, and will work with cross-functional teams of permanent staff, contractors, delivery partner and key vendors to successfully implement infrastructure services.
This role involves the build, management and support of secure, enterprise on-premise infrastructure that is the foundation for protecting some of the UKs most sensitive information. You will have an understanding of government security guidance to deliver highly defended infrastructure services.
This role will own the operational relationships with suppliers, ensuring services and products are delivered and aligned to industry best practice as well as regulatory and contractual requirements.
You may be required to travel to sites across the UK (particularly London and South-West England) to provide leadership to your teams and supervise the delivery of infrastructure services.

Responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for:
# Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and guidance to the TEO team. This includes mentoring junior engineers and leading complex projects.
# Strategic and Tactical Engineering Roadmaps: Develop strategic and tactical engineering roadmaps for technologies and services in your area of responsibility. This includes ensuring that they are future-proofed and that Rosa derives maximum value from investment in technologies.
# Vendor Management: Manage relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure that services and products are delivered according to agreed specifications.
# Design and Implementation: Design, build, manage, and support the infrastructure services that underpin all user services for Rosa.
# Security and Compliance: Ensure that the infrastructure is secure and complies with all relevant industry regulations.
# Performance Monitoring: Monitor system performance to ensure that infrastructure is running optimally. This includes troubleshooting any issues that arise and implementing solutions.
# Disaster Recovery Planning: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity in the event of a system failure or other disruptive event.
# Budgeting and Cost Control: Participate in budgeting and cost control processes, including the procurement of new, and ongoing management of, hardware and software.
# Stay Updated: Keep up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in infrastructure engineering, and make recommendations for improvements.
Responsibilities
Fulfil the role of joint Crypto Custodian, applying rigorous controls and maintaining precise records for all assets falling under the responsibility of the CM team, and ensuring ongoing compliance with relevant government standards.
Providing advice to colleagues on all aspects of Crypto Management and participating as required to successfully deal with enquiries, approval requests, incidents, and audits.
Creating and maintaining clear and accurate process documentation for all team activity.
Measuring and reporting on key performance indicators that support process effectiveness and efficiency.
Building effective working relationships with key stakeholders (inside and outside the RSO).
Producing clear and accurate written reports for line management and relevant authorities.
Supporting, participating in, and advising on relevant strategic projects, and RSO security group functional strategy.

We are looking for someone with:
Essential criteria
Evidence of designing, implementing, administering and supporting IT infrastructure technologies, solutions and services. These can include computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, automation, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS), and open source packages and solutions. They can also include virtual and cloud computing such as Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS). We are particularly looking for skills in on-premise data centre management and strategy, networking (Juniper, Cisco, Palo Alto), compute (Microsoft, Red Hat), virtualisation (VMware) and a focus on automation solutions.
Proven record of understanding information security, with the ability to design solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats as a core feature.
Evidence of taking accountability for issues that occur and being proactive in searching for potential problems to achieve excellent user outcomes.
Ability to design systems characterised by high levels of risk, impact, and business or technical complexity. You can develop effective implementation and procurement strategies, consistent with business needs ensure adherence to relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices.
Evidence of troubleshooting and resolution of problems. You can use lateral thinking to break a problem down into its component parts to identify and diagnose root causes. You can troubleshoot and identify problems across different technology capabilities including computing, storage, networking, physical infrastructure, software, commercial-off-the-shelf software (COTS) and open source software. You can ensure that the right actions are taken to investigate, resolve and anticipate problems and co-ordinate the team to investigate problems, implement solutions and take preventive measures.
Evidence of providing technical leadership and guidance to infrastructure engineering teams including mentoring junior engineers and leading complex projects.
Ability to monitor system performance to ensure that infrastructure is running optimally, including the development and introduction of SLAs and KPIs for performance management.
Desirable criteria
Evidence of a modern standards approach where you can demonstrate a strong understanding of the most appropriate modern standards and practices, and how they are applied, and can coach and guide others in these standards.
Ability to lead systems integration by establishing standards and procedures across a service product life cycle, including the development product life cycle, and can ensure that practitioners adhere to these. You can manage resources to ensure that the systems integration function works effectively.
Evidence of a thorough understanding of the technical concepts required for the role, and can explain how these fit into the wider technical landscape.
Proven record of designing solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineered with mitigation of security threats in a high-threat, high classification (SECRET of TOP SECRET) environment.
Experience of working in cross-functional, agile delivery teams using agile tooling such as the Atlassian stack (Jira, Confluence).
