Role Overview:


We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Cloud Architect / Lead DevOps Engineer to join our growing team. This pivotal role will involve designing, implementing, and managing the automated deployment of our infrastructure and applications across multiple cloud environments. As the Cloud Architect / Lead DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with our development, security, and operations teams to ensure our platform is scalable, secure, and resilient, ready to meet the demands of a dynamic and evolving financial services landscape.


Location: Cambridge, UK: working in-office three days per week (non negotiable)

Reporting to: CTO

Level: Senior


Key Responsibilities:


Infrastructure Design & Implementation:

  • Architect and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud infrastructure solutions on AWS.
  • Design multi-cloud strategies, including potential on-premise deployments, to ensure flexibility and reliability.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform.


CI/CD & Automation:

  • Lead the development and implementation of continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to automate the deployment of applications and infrastructure.
  • Implement automated monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Enhance automated testing frameworks to ensure robust code deployments.


Kubernetes & Containerisation:

  • Manage and optimise Kubernetes clusters for deploying and scaling applications.
  • Implement service mesh and API gateways
  • Develop strategies for container orchestration, ensuring seamless deployment and management of microservices.


Security & Compliance:

  • Implement best practices for cloud security, including identity and access management (IAM), network security, and data protection.
  • Ensure compliance with financial industry regulations and standards, including data privacy and cybersecurity protocols.
  • Conduct regular security audits and implement necessary improvements.


Collaboration & Leadership:

  • Collaborate with development teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with application requirements.
  • Mentor and lead a team of DevOps engineers, providing guidance and ensuring alignment with best practices.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.


Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity:

  • Design and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure platform availability.
  • Develop strategies for data backup, recovery, and failover across different cloud environments.


Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in cloud architecture, DevOps, or related roles, with a strong background in AWS.
  • Proven experience with multi-cloud environments (e.g., Azure, Google Cloud) and on-premise deployments.
  • Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and container orchestration.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation tools, and practices (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, ArgoCD).
  • In-depth understanding of cloud security, networking, and compliance standards.
  • Experience with blockchain technologies and smart contracts is a plus.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of Postgres or other relational databases.
  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA), or similar.
