Allstaff Manufacturing Division seek a Head of Health and Safety for our well established, prestigious client based in Renfrewshire. It is vital the individual comes from the manufacturing sector and can demonstrate culture change, not just compliance. We require someone with a pragmatic approach, who can build strong relationships, taking a stronger approach when the need arises.

Role Purpose:

As a member of the senior leadership team, you will be responsible for devising, implementing and leading the company’s Health & Safety strategy, driving a culture where Health & Safety is at the forefront of everyones mind.

Leading a team of three Health & Safety advisors, as well as health & safety committees, the role is very hands-on but equally strategic in the development and implementation of initiatives for the continual development of the health & safety culture and performance across the Scottish sites. The role will also have responsibility for the development of health & safety at a more recently opened, but rapidly expanding, facility in China.

Experience Desired:

  • Chartered ISOH.
  • Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma/NVQ Level 5 Diploma level, with evidence of CPD (through IOSH) achievement as well as proven experience of working with and improving management systems.
  • Experience of ISO 45001 with auditing experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in similar roles with demonstrable success in leading a Health & Safety cultural transformation in a multi-location manufacturing business.
  • Demonstrable success in developing and implementing meaningful Health & Safety KPI’s and their use in driving continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable success in collaboration and influence, with peers and teams across all levels of the business, to develop capability, responsibility, and accountability.
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with regulatory bodies, suppliers, and customers.
  • Demonstrable leadership and line management skills with a coaching style that gets the best out of people focused on collaboration, continual improvement, personal and professional growth, and empowerment.

The Role:

  • Ensure the business fully complies with all Health & Safety legislation by developing, refining, and managing a comprehensive safety management system, policies, and procedures that protect the Health & Safety of employees, contractors, and visitors across the group.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to build a culture of proactive Health & Safety awareness at all locations and levels of the business. This includes fostering a workplace where everyone—employees, contractors, and visitors—feels responsible, competent, and empowered to prioritize Health & Safety daily.
  • Identify and address any skill or knowledge gaps within the Health & Safety team and throughout leadership roles, including directors, managers, team leaders, and supervisors. This supports the entire business in feeling empowered and capable of enhancing Health & Safety for themselves and their colleagues.
  • Advance the effectiveness of quarterly Health & Safety Committee meetings across the business, driving continuous improvement from the Health & Safety 360 evaluation and roadmap, and refining these efforts annually.
  • Optimize existing Health & Safety metrics to track progress and support ongoing improvement, with monthly reports to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and the board.
  • Review all accidents, incidents, and near-misses, implementing measures to prevent re-occurrences or escalation into more serious incidents. Monitor, report, and minimize RIDDOR reportable incidents.
  • Ensure completion and follow-through on Risk Assessments across the group, including COSHH Air Monitoring, Fire, and Legionella compliance.
  • Develop e-learning tools for Health & Safety induction, emergency procedures, and Permit to Work for employees, contractors, and visitors, with tracking for compliance and accountability.
  • Keep the Senior Leadership Team informed of Health & Safety legislation updates, advising on necessary adaptations for compliance.
  • Lead the performance and development of direct team members, ensuring an inclusive, diverse environment where everyone is treated fairly and equally.
