Key responsibilities:

  • Design and conduct laboratory tests and experiments independently.
  • Lead the efforts in processing samples in the lab, monitoring progress while ensuring accuracy and precision.
  • Manage a small team of lab scientists (up to 3 people), set goals, delegate tasks, and oversee performance of the team.
  • Manage samples, inventory, stocks, and equipment using an Electronic Lab Notebook system.
  • Perform duties related to lab management.
  • Record and report day to day activities.
  • Write documentations (SOPs, work instructions, risk assessments, etc.)
  • Uphold the laboratory's regulations and policies to maintain a safe and productive work environment.
  • Cooperate with the operations team in aspects of health and safety, project management, and quality management.


Essential experience and skills:

  • A postgraduate degree in genomics or a related subject
  • A minimum of five years of academic or industry experience in relevant research fields
  • Extensive experience of working with RNA
  • Excellent laboratory techniques and skills in PCR, nucleic acid extraction, and transcriptomic and/or genomic library construction
  • Demonstrated experience in lab management
  • Experience in managing a team
  • Excellent organizational skills and willingness to take on responsibility
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Experience in long-read sequencing technology (Nanopore, PacBio)
  • Experience of working within a start-up environment
