As assistant quantity surveyor you will report to the head of commercial and assist the commercial team with the effective management of costs for sites, and ensure targets are met by managing and controlling the budget and valuations. KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

In your role as assistant quantity surveyor you will:

  • Assist the Commercial team with cost management of site budgets.
  • Raise subcontract payments using self-billing from the monthly valuations carried out by the senior quantity surveyor.
  • Assist with site addendums raising orders for materials/plant and arranging delivery in line with site requirements, resolving any quality/delivery issues with suppliers.
  • Involvement in the tender process for both subcontractor and suppliers and assist with the analysis of tender returns.
  • Attend meetings with key suppliers to build working relationships and negotiate favourable commercial agreements for Banks Homes
  • Carry out site valuations with the supervision of the senior quantity surveyor if and when required.
  • Work closely with other department within Banks Homes and key external suppliers and consultants to mitigate additional cost and drive value.
  • Assist with the implementation of Housebuilding systems and processes as required and the setup of any temporary arrangements in the interim.


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:

  • Experience working within Housebuilding, preferably at Assistant Quantity Surveyor level.
  • Strong IT skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office and industry standard software packages, i.e. COINs.
  • Knowledge of UK Building Regulations, NHBC and Health and Safety requirements within the industry.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Good communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Good problem solver.
  • Team player and supportive of colleagues and the wider business.
  • Keen eye for detail with the ability to assist other departments in the concept of a scheme.
  • Highly numerate, able to gather, interpret and present data to facilitate preparation of budgets and subsequent valuations.
