We currently have an excellent opportunity for an Operations Supervisor to join our operations team. Whilst supervising a team of five people, this function will oversee the yard planning department, ensuring that the terminal yard is as efficient and effective as possible while taking into account financial, commercial, and operational issues, as well as guaranteeing safety compliance. They will also oversee the daily Landside Gate operations and processes, with the goal of meeting all productivity, budgetary, and safety standards. All while guaranteeing the availability of an effective terminal yard plan, both short and long term, that allows operations to reach productivity goals.


About The Role

How will you contribute:

  • Develop a strategy for effective yard usage by building, testing, and implementing expert decking and allocation strategies to match cargo flows.
  • Liaise with shipping lines & Haulage community to optimise stacking by equipment type to minimise unnecessary re-handles in the yard and monitor levels of empty storage containers on the terminal.
  • Liaise with the Vessel/Rail Superintendent & Berth Planner to exchange information on vessel exchanges and timings and set the yard accordingly (including any changes to the plan)
  • Maintain effective documentation and reports related to all yard activities to supply to management.
  • Constant supervision of the yard and set the required strategic housekeeping for the yard planning team to follow.
  • Close liaison with Vessel / Rail Superintendent & OEP Team to look at continuous process improvement in order to meet / exceed financial and operational KPI’s.
  • Manage daily Gate flow & close liaison with Gate Coordinators on Operational strategy.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Effectively communicate with all operations management and departments to raise and address any concerns that may affect the day to day running of the Port.
  • Work with the Operations management team in achieving and sustaining the Terminal Operational Targets and Metrics.
  • Maintain a high level of personal visibility in operational areas., taking time to discuss work with team. Maintain high standards regarding work practice and safety rules and ensure the team adhere to the same high standards, building a proactive safety culture.


What will you Bring.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Proven managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Proven experience within an operational environment
  • Significant experience in yard planning activities
  • Experience using XPS and N4 would be an advantage.
  • Experience working with hauliers would be beneficial.
  • Experience in a similar role ideally from a terminal background or comparable.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal stakeholder and external clients alike.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
  • IT savvy and the ability to use all Microsoft applications.
