Brown & Brown Europe’s Technology Solutions Team have created this new DBA role as part of our requirements to support existing line of business application databases and building/supporting new database solutions. We are looking at ways to transform our database platforms across Azure, and on-premise environments, where possible leveraging new and existing technologies within Microsoft Azure, while also ensuring our systems remain available and performant.


The day to day:

DB Implementation:

Design, implement, and maintain databases to support the requirements of our different businesses, including the migration of databases from on-premise or cloud platforms into the Brown & Brown EU Azure tenant.

Ensure high availability, performance, and scalability of solutions.

Strategically plan for database capacity, projected storage requirements and functionality.


Database Optimisation:

Monitor and optimise database performance, including query tuning, index optimisation, and resource utilisation.

Implement best practices to enhance overall systems efficiency.


Data Modelling and Architecture:

Collaborate with development teams to design and implement effective data models that align with application requirements.

Provide guidance on database architecture, best practices and best solutions i.e. NoSQL v SQL.


Security and Compliance:

Implement and maintain robust security measures to protect data within the database.

Ensure compliance with industry data protection standards and regulatory requirements.

Manage, control, and monitor user access to the database.


Backup and Recovery:

Develop and maintain comprehensive backup and recovery strategies for the database.

Perform regular testing of backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity.


Monitoring and Troubleshooting:

Establish and maintain monitoring systems to proactively identify and resolve database issues.

Participate in technical bridges with other areas of Technology Solutions as part of an incident to restore service in a timely manner

Undertake root cause analysis on recurring issues and eliminate underlying problems.


Documentation:

Create and maintain relevant documentation


About you:

  • Experience in a similar role.
  • Extensive knowledge of existing and emerging database technologies, particularly SQL server, Azure COSMOS DB, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle.
  • Understanding of report creation with Power BI.
  • Extensive experience working on the life cycle for developing and maintaining data processing and reporting applications, including
  • System analysis and design
  • Data analysis and data reporting
  • Relational and multi-dimensional data modelling (OLTP/OLAP)
  • Performance tuning and database design
  • Working with non-relational data sources such as flat files, excel files, JSON files, and APIs
  • Security, compliance, back-up and recovery process
  • Knowledgeable in data integration and/or data migration design and implementation, data management principles and best practices, and the architecture and design of Business Intelligence solutions.
  • Proficient in performing system and/or integration testing.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Curiosity to learn new DB technologies and obtain relevant certifications
