Clinical Fellow in Neurology

Liverpool, United Kingdom NHS Full time

The Walton Centre is seeking to appoint a Clinical Fellow in Neurology, for fixed-term 12 months.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a well-supported clinical role whilst developing both personally and professionally through participation in education, audit and research.

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust (WCFT) is the only dedicated neurosciences centre in the UK and one of only a handful of NHS Trusts rated as 'Outstanding' by the CQC. We are a large and busy neurological centre, always driving forward a number of initiatives to deliver the best care to NHS patients. There is a very active neurology department here, delivering the latest treatment to large numbers of patients from a wide catchment area in North West England, North Wales, Isle of Man and parts of Lancashire and Cheshire, covering a population of 3.5 million. We run satellite clinics across England and Wales and the Isle of Man.

The Trust is based in North Liverpool. The main hospital is on University Hospitals Aintree's campus and situated next to Aintree University Hospital. We share a 'link bridge' with Aintree which was put in to strengthen our collaborative working with them as part of the region's trauma centre.

We are clinical leaders in a number of fields and have been a 'vanguard site' for the national program of delivering neurology services across a region.

Main duties of the job

Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, with a license to practice. Main duties of the role include:

  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high standard of patient care is delivered and achieved at all times.
  • Liaison with clinical staff, such as Neurologists, nurses, therapists, radiologists, neurosurgeons and neurophysiologists to support high quality safe care.
  • Clinical evaluation of outcomes.
  • Assistance with the preparation of guidelines and protocols.
  • Participation in the research activities.
  • Participate in Clinical Audit.
  • Participate in educational meetings and teaching of undergraduates and junior trainee doctors.
  • The post-holder may be required to participate in the neurology registrar on-call rota.
About us

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is the only NHS trust to hold dual accreditation for the Investors in People. We invest in people and we invest in wellbeing standards and have been awarded Gold status for both. The Walton Centre is a leader in the treatment and care of neurology and neurosurgery, placing the patient and their family at the heart of everything we do. As the only specialist hospital trust in the UK dedicated to providing comprehensive neurology, neurosurgery, spinal and pain management services we are proud to be rated as an Outstanding Trust by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), and champion change throughout the field of neuroscience. Originally formed in 1992, the Trust received Foundation Trust status in 2009.

With around 1,450 staff, The Walton Centre treats more than 127,000 outpatients and 18,000 inpatients each year. We have leading specialists and incredibly dedicated staff delivering excellent clinical outcomes for brain, spinal and neurological care nationally and internationally. Teams across our site in Fazakerley, Liverpool, offer a world-class service in diagnosing and treating injuries and illnesses affecting the brain, spine and peripheral nerves and muscles, and in supporting people suffering from a wide range of long-term neurological conditions.
