Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our team, in this busy, friendly department.

This exciting opportunity is for a Medical laboratory Assistant position which is support staff to the qualified Biomedical Scientists. When trained, the expectation is that you rotate throughout the key areas of the laboratory (Haematology, Immunology or Blood Transfusion). The successful candidate will be expected to participate in evening working and possibly some night sessions if required. Participation in a weekend/bank holiday morning rota is also required, for additional remuneration at enhanced rates.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to work in the Haematology & Blood Transfusion Department at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and Cheltenham General Hospital on a rotational basis. Providing support for the BMS staff.

Good keyboard skills and manual dexterity is essential. Previous laboratory, nursing or clerical experience would be an advantage but is not essential, as full work based training will be given.

Basic Education CSE's; GCSE's in IT, Science, Mathematics and written English

Further Education - degree.

Able to prioritise tasks and organise a busy workload Experience of working in an environment where accuracy and precision are vital Experience of team working, good team worker Able to conform to Trust requirements for confidentiality and data protection Experience of common IT Software Able to work under pressure without loss of concentration or performance

Experience of Laboratory techniques and processes NHS experience either Primary or Secondary care
