We are looking for 1 band 3 Higher MLAs to join our team. The role is full time 37.5 hours per week. The person who joins our team will be enthusiastic, dynamic and have a positive outlook. You will supervise and directly contribute to the training of Medical Laboratory Assistants. When required you will perform audits, raise error logs, perform appraisals and help update other aspects of the quality management system. Previous experience in the Pre-Analytical Area would be advantageous but is not essential.

You will be able to supervise a team of staff, keeping an eye on the workload so that it is processed accurately and in a timely way.

You will have excellent communication skills with a positive attitude and be able to communicate complex detailed information to other healthcare professionals and visitors into Pathology including patients, carers, porters and Pathology drivers.

You will have a good IT knowledge and skills to confidently use the hospital laboratory computer systems including TCLE. You will be able to manage complex data, perform ‘house -keeping’ tasks and act as a reference point for other staff. You will have a good understanding of Microsoft, Q Pulse and other specialised software packages.

You will have good knowledge of how Pathology Transport feeds work into Pan for processing.

You will work across sites and there is an expectation that Band 3 staff will supervise 2 evenings per week and help cover absences.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Appropriate experience within a laboratory setting or equivalent and willingness to work towards their IBMS level 1 certificate in achievement.

Excellent communication skills to lead a team responsible for processing a large workload in an accurate and timely manner, as well as to communicate complex detailed information to other healthcare professionals.

To take part in the planning of and enforcing of, changes in the demands of the service developments.

To be able to liaise with compassion, and sensitivity with the general public. Organisational skills with the ability to manage one’s own time and that of others.

IT knowledge and skills to a level of competency to confidently use the Hospital Laboratory Computer systems to manage complex data, to perform ‘house -keeping’ tasks and act as a reference point for other staff. Has a good understanding of Microsoft, Q Pulse and other specialised software packages.

Have a good working knowledge of Chemical Pathology, Haematology and Immunology tests
- including specimen types, sampling conditions, requesting protocols and turnaround times in order to provide advice to staff and colleagues. To have good problem solving abilities to troubleshoot errors and for future planning.

Well-developed technical skills and manual dexterity skills.

Motivated and willing to undertake self-learning and development

Ability to work well within a team

Ability to use one’s own initiative but also recognise limitations of knowledge, training and experience and refer any queries to supervising AP4/BMS staff.
