Locum Consultant Vascular Surgeon (10 PA, Fixed Term – 6 months)

We are looking for a Consultant Vascular Surgeon initially on a fixed term basis for 6 months to work in our team with a view to applying for a substantive position which has funding in place.

Key duties will include supervising and running outpatient clinics; hybrid and open surgery operating lists; care for patients on the ward in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, including ward nurses and specialist nursing teams; contribution to the vascular MDTs; vascular and endovascular working; teaching of medical students, junior doctors and allied healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job

The post will be based at the Royal London Hospital; however the post-holder will undertake spoke site responsibilities at Newham University Hospital – OPD; ward round.

You must hold full registration with the General Medical Council and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

MB BS, or equivalent FRCS(Gen Surg) or equivalent On GMC Specialist Register for Vascular surgery or within 6 months of attaining CCT.

Desirable criteria

Higher Research Degree MD or PhD

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria

Comprehensive training in Vascular Surgery in dedicated units Subspecialty training, experience

Desirable criteria

Peripheral arterial endovascular fellowship

Management / Audit Experience

Essential criteria

Able to provide evidence of clinical audit and demonstrate understanding of impact and challenges this brings. Ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of current and future NHS challenges and strategy. Ability to support team members in business planning via collaboration and discussion.

Desirable criteria

Evidence of innovative approaches to healthcare Clinical guideline development Management course

Academic Achievements
