Overview of Role

The Senior Project Buyer oversees and executes capital expenditure (Capex) procurement activities. This role includes developing and implementing purchasing strategies, negotiating contracts, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective acquisition of equipment, materials, and services for capital projects. The Senior Project Buyer works closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed within budget and on schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Procurement Strategy Development: Develop and implement effective Capex procurement strategies aligned with project requirements and organizational goals.
  • Supplier Management: Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers based on quality, cost, and delivery performance. Establish and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Project Coordination: Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and timelines. Ensure procurement activities are aligned with project schedules.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiate terms and conditions of contracts with suppliers, ensuring favourable terms for the organization while minimizing risks.
  • Performance Tracking: Track and report on procurement performance metrics, such as cost savings, supplier performance, and delivery timelines.
  • Cost Management: Monitor and control procurement costs to ensure adherence to project budgets. Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Compliance: Ensure all procurement activities comply with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential risks in the supply chain and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery.
  • Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve procurement processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CIPS, CPM) would be preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement, with a minimum of 3 years in Capex project procurement.
  • Strong knowledge of procurement principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Proficiency in using procurement software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Capability to analyse and interpret technical specifications and project requirements.
